my 97 SHO, dripped all the tranny fluid out last night. i dumped a bottle of "Trans GUNK" in it and leveled it off with some ATF to get it to work.

i just bought it last week, and have a warranty on it.

do SHO transaxles have a tendency to blow tranny main seals??

if so, about how long would it take a dealer to swap one out.

BTW it has 72k miles.

what do you mean by main seals? the torque converter seal? or the half shaft seals? either way it shouldn't be blowing any seals, i would be taking in back if you have only had it for a week. if it's the torque converter seal well it's going to take a day or so depending on how busy the shop is, if it's a transaxle seal, it wouln't take long at all, mabey around a hour or so, specially since everything was just put in a week ago, everything will come apart nice.

When I bought my '99 it had just had the trans. rebuilt b/c of the T/C seal being blown out of it. The first owner told me he had let his grandson use the car and he must have been getting into it. It blew while on the highway. He traded it, and a ford trans tech bought it to turn a few bucks on it, rebuilt the trans. and sat on it for 6 mos.b4 I bought it. So the answer is yes, any trans can pop the front pump seal when driven hard enough.

man i love to be in a car with someone driving a car that hard, a buddy of mine used to have a 92 transam and we put a 350tubo tranny in there and pounded the royal **** outta it, never blew a TC seal, actually i have never seen a blown TC seal to think of it, i've seen leaky old ones but never a tranny that is a week old. meh, whatever.

Have you looked to see where the fluid is coming from. I just swapped out my quick disconnects and cooler hardlines with rubber tranny lines and barb and clamp fittings because they were leaking.

i got it from a used lot, which is across the street from the largest Ford stealership in the area. (Great) my warranty will cover it, but if its a matter of a loose pan bolt, or a loose hose fitting, i can handle that myself. I'm gonna put it on a buddies lift tonight to see where its coming from.

i was just wondering if SHOs were notorious for blowing pump seals?

I second the lines. A few of us have driven the car really hard. On the track the tranny fluid will get really hot and start dumping fluid out resulting in a black flag. Usually it's just a matter of letting the tranny cool and then topping it off and your good for the next session. So I doubt that any kid could drive the car hard enough on the street to cause a problem.

Plus the OEM lines and fittings are a huge restriction in flow.
