Sounds more like a clutch dilemma.
Is is hard to get it into reverse?
When the engine is off, does the transmission shift ok?
Is your clutch bite point way down in the carpet (on your clutch pedal).
The throw out bearing and the pressure plate fingers wear out before the disc wears out in these cars.

goes into reverse just fine, and shifting when car is off i still need to go to 2nd before first, as far as feeling it "grab" it does it pretty much right when i start pushing down on the pedal. i know the PO replaced the clutch not to long before i bought it. how big of a job is replacing the throw out bearing by yourself?

It is a very big job, usually $500.00 at a shop. The part is less than $50.00 but usually you need the pressure plate too because the fingers get worn down and break off.
If the clutch has been done lately, it might not be that after all.
Maybe it could be the connectors at the end of the shifter cables. Search this forum because there are fixes for the cable ends.... some people have used zip ties, Chrysler parts and I think someone on here custom manufactures them.

FWIW, even healthy MTXs can behave that way a little bit. My 95 would go in 1st easier from 2nd even when it was brand-new.

The Throw out bearings are all the same. Usually you can hear a bad TOB when you put your foot on the clutch, the sound will change a lot.
If the bite point of the clutch is still high up in the travel, it is still OK.

Make sure it is automatic transmission fluid in your manual tranny. The last guy may have put hypoid gear oil in there which hurts your shifting ability.

If not that, concentrate on adjusting the shifter.

That's a good point. Even different types of ATF will affect shifting, especially on a marginal synchronizer.

Alrighty, new development. At first it was just 1st gear and needing to go into 2nd to get into it... Today it just decided that it does not want to go into 1st at all, 3rd and 5th arent there either now, but 2nd and 4th and reverse are fine. When off the car will still not go into 1st, but will go into 3rd and 5th if i put it there and hold it for a few seconds : /.

Thanks,
Andrew
