Topic: ACT temperature sensor problem?
http://www.shoforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=000049

sdpatt:
The throttle movement is sensed by the throttle position sensor. Disconnect the TPS connector and try the cylinder balance test again. If it runs, your TPS may be sending a varying signal and would therefore need to be replaced. It is an easy replacement.

I can disconnect the TPS and still run the car for the engine on tests? If the TPS is bad and is what is causing my stalling, then with it disconnected the run test should be able to perform then?

Oh whoops, I forgot to ask the rest of my questions too, but if I take a voltage reading of the TPS, what are the correct voltage/range I should be looking for?

Someone correct me if this info is in error, but the TPS output at idle is 0.98-1.0V and around 5V at full throttle.

Yes as close to but not at 1.00 vDC. I usually set them at 0.94 to 0.96 volts to be on the safe side. It may require the old paddle adjustment trick, because the Ford TPS don't have the banana slots like the GM units.

I have mine set at .97v It was at 1.0 and I noticed better drivability lowering it to .97v

My full throttle is more then 5volts though. I can't remember what it was.

I recently replaced my TPS and was unaware of any adjustments that can be performed. How is the TPS adjusted? By loosening the screws and watching the output voltage for the correct value and then re-tightening the screws?

I never adjusted mine either. I believe the computer learns the TPS output during the idle reprogramming.

Ok what the?!? squint I disconnected the TPS and was able to actually have a running engine test without stalling, I pulled two codes, can't remember the exact numbers off hand and I left my list in the car

they were related to the 02 being lean and the other of course about "TPS voltage out of range" But get this once I tried running without a TPS I hit the gas and BAM stall!
This is driving me nuts!! I wanna go home and tear everything up and nip this problem in the bud!

OK....The TPS voltage adjustment is done buy using a multi meter...probe in the connecter at the center wire. This is the output voltage. Clip the ground of the multi meter to the TB. Turn the key to the on position and there is your output at idle. I flick the throttle open a few times buy hand to make sure it settles at idle. Loosen the 2 screws and there the enought play in the holes to allow movement of the TPS. Set it to the voltage you want...I set mine at .97v...do not go over 1.0v.
Tightned and mantain the .97v. It might take a few tries as tightning the screw sometime moves the TPS a tad.
To chack for any voltage drops just move the throttle very very slowly from idle to full throttle. It should rise in voltage incremently. If it drops or peaks at anytime..the TPS is faulty and must be replaced.

Hope this helps...
