We have had a rare case from time to time. However, it is not common.

Uh, the torque converter doesn't touch the crank. The torque converter bolts to the flex plate with the starter ring gear on it. This in turn bolts to the crank with a reinforcing ring in between the two.

Is this in some other type of car maybe?

^ and a tree. More torque just would have pulled the second truck more easily.
