I am planning on using the RS up in Canada just switch em up for winter tires around Halloween till Easter.I'm running the General GMax RS in 275/40/20 and they are great in the south. They don't recommend running them below 40* though, so that might be an issue up north.
I would agree. I had a great experience with Conti DWS on my vehicle previous to the SHO. But the first time I purchased tires for the SHO I went with B.F. Goodrich g-force Comp-2 A/S. They had a 45K tread wear warranty. Yeah, Um about that, they lasted a whopping 16,800 miles. I’ll admit. I’m not the easiest on tires. But less than 50%?? And I’m religious about rotation and inflation, etc. Then, to claim on the warranty, you had to pay to send the tires back. And they must arrive on an evening when the one eyed brown dog howls at the full blue moon at the strike of midnight. Oh yeah, and you also have to lay out another $800 for another set to start the whole process!! Great warranty!
I always purchase ultra high performance all season tires. Even here in north South Carolina we do see an occasional ice or snow (gone by lunch) event. And while it’s almost always the Explorer put in service on those days, there is still a possibility of the SHO being required in an emergency. And, so far, I don’t do track days. All that being said what I’ve experienced with Pirelli’s, Conti’s, The original B.F. Goodrich Comp T/A (that I loved) etc., etc. Ultra High Performance All Season tires is at least 30K. Occasionally 32 or 35. Did I expect the rated 45K “Warranty”? No. But 50% would have been nice. Otherwise let’s all just be honest and don’t put a treadware warranty on them.G-Force Comp 2s are excellent summer tires. And it sounds like the a/s version you got could also be decent. I had a set of the summer version on my previous Focus SVT. They are as good as the Hankook evo v12, and both are just a notch below the Hankook RS4 and BFG Rival, both 200 treadware tires, for absolute performance. I'll admit, I come from a different perspective. I do track days, and I run winter tires. For me, any summer tire over 300 treadware is for minivans and soccermommobiles. Same thing with "supposed" mileage claims over 40k miles.
Tires with high mileage and treadware ratings sacrifice everything (dry/wet/cornering/braking performance) just to last long. Getting just under 17K on a set sounds like what I do (!!), so it sounds normal to me! Personally, I don't think tires on any car, claiming to be a performance car, should last any more than two calendar years.......MAX. By then, there are too many heat cycles, and they all become rocks.
