I just purchased an 89 sho. It came with the original honeycomb 15 inch wheels 215/65/15 tires Blahh. I got my hands on the slicer 16 wheels. I heard that 225/60/16 tires rub. Should I go for 225/55/16 or 225/50/16 tires(maybe the profile is too low on the 50's figuring my car is not lowered and the gap between the tire and fender will be too low and look bad). The shocks and springs are stock. Thanks

The 225/55-16 tires are much closer to the rolling diameter of the OEM tires. Didn't we respond to this question elsewhere?

On my '89 everything rubbed on a 16" wheel. I finally cut the lips off the rear fenders and it stopped most of the rubbing. Currently, on my SHO is a set of 225/55 Yoko AVS Sports (I think? I've got like 4 sets of tires)

Have you checked out the new Yokohama SVSdb speed rated tires? 225 16s. Nice tread pattern, quiet,no hydroplaning, good tread life, super roadholding. Reasonable.

I had a body shop roll my rear fender to stop my 225/55/16 from rubbing. They did it my using a special body hammer and no heat. He hammered it up and then using a cutting wheel he then cut this roll down to about 1/2 inch. He then used an undercoating paint and applied to the new "roll". He also cut a little of the plastic lower panel. Took about 2 hours total.I have an 89 and have 225/50/16 Dunlop SP8000's with Koni's and Eibach's-good luck- wink
