I read where Denny finally has his sho up to speed. The culprit was the timing was off. How hard is that to diagnose (for someone like me, who would have to get someone else to do it) It runs great other than I don't THINK it is as fast as it should be.
I added a K and N panel filter and did not notice a thing!
Perhaps I am just mental.? I used to have a 93 atx that I'm pretty sure would run circles around my 90 mtx. Do you have to push the rpms to 6 and 7 K to get the 5 speeds to run fast????? I hope not.
Has anyone seen the "Tornado" on tv. (It is supposed to increase the air flow) Is that junk... which I assume it is?
Need... more... power.

Have you done the routine maintenance on your engine lately? Valve lash, plugs, wires, oil change, Timing belt? This will help revive your SHO a bit. you never know until you do...

Well thats the problem. Thats a lot of work and $ for something not necessarily needed. (this of course coming from a mechanically handicapped sho enthusiast) I cant see doing all of that if the car seems to run fine. UNLESS...
would the 60 k video guide even a dummy through the entire grueling process?
Ah, who am I kidding?
The valve lash and the timing belt are 2 things I am thinking MIGHT be culprits. But gee whiz, I do good to change the oil. No sho mechanics around here (that I am aware of) except the most high priced and dreaded 4 letter word- FORD dealership.
Honestly though, how many sho owners have the routine maintanence done (60, 100, 120 K's)
Of course I guess that is why I am not the only one complaining about their "Vulcan" sho's!

Performing the required maintenance may be able to restore a little lost pep, but yes, since the engine doesn't make peak horsepower until at least 6,000 rpm on a stock engine, you do have to rev to 7,000 rpm for peak performance. On both the MTX and the ATX. The MTX should be able to run away from the ATX. Lighter weight and more gears to keep the engine near the peak power. But you have to shift and rev to keep the engine near the peak power.

don't be afraid to rev the beast high. Yahama made the engine just for that reason. the secondaries don't open till 4000RPM's so when racing the slow ATX's you will blow their doors in. Fuel cut off is at 7300 so you won't blow the engine by high revs. ATX cut off at 4500?

Slow ATXes my foot! There are many ATXes running the same numbers that MTX SHOs run, if not better.

Yeah. Look into your maintenance. My SHO hadn't seen any real maintenance until it was in my hands(and I'm the about the seventh or eighth owner now) Every little thing would help but just a little. Once that timing belt/CPS/frontseal were all done, the SHO just woke up from it's slow nightmare. It's a tough and sometimes hopeless process, but you'll get there, and once you do, man you'll be amazed :D
