Contiental conti-extreme contacts 225/55/16 vr rated...got all 4 of them for 383 with tax. There friggin awesome in all weather conditions and handle very well. Only problem i had with them is on slicers you can't use bang on weights since the bead protector prevents the use of them so you have to use stick on weights. Which will cost you more money to have them balanced and mounted and roated. So just a little heads up with them other than that there awesome!!! thumb

Visit Tire Rack's search by size, select your desires and make a choice for yourself. The ultra high performance and max performance tires will provide better wet grip and much better dry grip than the all season tires. The "all-season" label gives that extra snow traction. You have to decide how important that quality that is for you. You need to use a VR-rated or higher tire for safety and performance considerations. Also visit the Tire Rack's ultra high performance test results and max performance and ultra high performance survey results to help your decision making process.

Here is the output from a search of 225/55-16 tires in the high and max performance summer tire categories with speed ratings of V and higher. You will see that Yokohama AVS ES100 at $90 per tire is the cheapest you wll want to go. The Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712s are NOT high performance tires, but you get a decent tire for the money. Just don't expect traction on a road race course. In a given performance category, you pretty much get what you pay for.

I run the ES100s on my summer wheels, and have been very happy with them on the street and the track.

Don't understand your comment on the Kumho 712s. I personally know a few folks that have run them, and have been very happy with their track performance. Yes, they are cheap, and are summer-only tires (even Tire Rack does not recommend tham below about 40 degrees), and my beef with them is that they are on the heavy side, but their dry track performance has been proven to be quite good. Kirk even likes 'em!!

Another ES100 equivalent for summer-only is the Kumho MX. Only problem is that they don't come in a 225/55/16, only a 225/50/16, so you have to tell Tire Rack that you want them for a car that came with them stock (like a Grand Am GT), otherwise they won't sell them to you, since their weight rating is lower than the original SHO tires.

My views on the Kuhmo Ectsa Supra 712? From watching a 712-equipped SHO in front of me on a road race course as the driver struggled to keep the car on the line (and the track) as I was not near the limits of my less-than-race-radial Bridgestone RE730s.

The comments of the driver of another 712-equipped SHO on the same track express frustration (anger) at the slippery nature of the tires as he realized he could not hold the line of the other SHOs in the "aggressive" group.

Personally driving a SHO fitted with the 712s and being very surprised at the lack of transient response and lateral grip in comparison to my RE730s.

They felt like they had very hard tread rubber for long tread life with soft sidewalls for a smoother ride. I did not experience them to be performance tires unless compared to all-season rubber.

I fitted the almost as inexpensive Yokohama ES100 to my wife's 2000 Maxima SE in the 235/45-17 size and found significant improvement in transient response, and both lateral and braking traction compared to the admittedly all-season OEM Potenza RE92s. Since we were primarily looking for better wet traction, finding that and the greater all around grip was a bonus from the inexpensive ES100.

A co-worker of mine has not endorsed the ES100s fitted to her BMW M Roadster for track use and looks forward to their expiration. Driving that car yesterday made me realize that driver's very high tire standards. :D

i think im gonna go with the yokohamas, i think they are the AVS ES100's, my friend has some yokos on this ws6 trans am, and they are quite sticky. and theyre not much compared to others either...he gets good hook up at the drag strip but he said the street cousres kinda sux. i personally hate kumho's, i drove on some of them on my old vehicle and they SUCKED, i had mastercraft ones that were better than those, and 1/4 the price. so im goin yoko.......

I've got the Kumho Ecsta 712 for about a year now on the slicers and while they were inexpensive, they don't have much grip, and have a very soft sidewall. The only other comparisons that I have are the original GT+4 and Dunlop SP8000's. The Dunlops were much much better in all aspects.

I was pretty surprised that the 712's were not better as they have mostly good reviews from consumers.

I'm getting ready to try on some Kumho MX which the track boys seem to like quite well. Also putting them on some bigger rims (17x8) which should a world of difference too.

I run the V700 Victoracers on the track and they are amazingly grippy. Night and day from a street tire.

I hear ya pat, after you get used to a DOT Comp. tire all street tires seem to suck in comparison :)

I have ES100's on the 92, they are almost worn out at 16k. They have gotten noisy with age, but have really good straight line grip (off the line and braking). Pretty good in the corners to. I doubt I'll get another set. There are other tires as good that will last longer
