Okay, I know it's been done to death but I'm just looking for fresh ideas. Yes, I did a search but things change and people's opinions sway, so here we go again....

What are recommended tires for a daily driven SHO that will help at the 1/4 mile track and be meant for more spirited driving, more so than just leisure driving or all out racing?
They would be on the stock slicers on my 94 MTX.

Thank you.

BFGoodrich Comp T/A VR4 225/50-16.

They are very good tires for the money IMHO. They grip well around those "little" bends in the road, and they never cease to amaze me in the 1/4.

Also, BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD 225/50-16. A little more pricey but worth the money.

Mike, I hear the Firehawk SZ50 is decent (If you can live with the name Firestone on the sidewalls!).
If you plan to keep the slicers, you might want to keep the stock size (215/60). The wheel is only 6" wide.
Look for summer-only tires and you should be happy with anything by the big tire companies (Michelin, BFG, Yoko., etc.) but expect to pay about cdn$250 per tire or go to Wal-Mart and get a nice set of Pacemark Predator GTS for about $250 total!! wink

If I get the Firestone's, will that make my car flip over? Or have they sorted that out? :D

I am looking for a summer tire only, and will have winter tires on another set of rims.

Which tires do you have on your summer rims again?

Thanks.
See you Saturday!!

Not even joking, my dad called me the other day only to tell me that my cousin who owns a red 95ATX blew a tire going 95mph. Funny thing was THEY WERE FIRESTONES. It was later determined that it was tire failure that led to the blow-out. Also mind you, the car is pretty much totalled. Imagine going 95mph and losing a tire on a freeway.....not a good thing for a SHO.

But I am not trying to talk you out of Firestones. :D

Mike, I have the Michelin Pilot XGT V4 215/60/16 on my 7" summer rims. They're much better than the original GT+4 the car came with (softer ride, less noise, better wet grip).
I went with those because they were rated All-seasons" but after driving one winter with them (traction: not bad, braking and turning: not very good), I decided to get a set of snow tires.
My next set will be summer-only, if I can find the cash!

I know what you mean about the GT+4's.
That is what I still have.
Consistency is key and they are equally bad in all weather conditions/seasons. They are very worn too, so I must give them that.

Needless to say, if it's snowing on Saturday, hopefully one of you fine gentlemen will pull me out of the ravine after I skid off that twisty road. :D

I have a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE730, that are brand new. Came with the car when I bought it. Now I am not very familiar with performance tires, but I can tell you this. The handle great in the rain, Lord knows we have had ALOT of it where I am lately. Also it seems to handle the rigors of daily driving very nicely, while providing plenty of "stick" to the roadness...

Hope this has helped.

Yeah, I cant fault the Yokohamas, I have them in 225-60-16 AVSdb, the tread pattern is very cool, they hold wet or dry, work super in very aggressive driving, reasonable price. Also very quiet. Just came out about a year ago, newest tech.

I'm putting BFG g force TA KDWS 225/55/16s on my new wheels. Though I think that size may be too wide for the slicers. Yokos are a good tire though I have heard they wear out quickly. If the KDWS come in the stock size I would reccomend them, if not I would also reccomend the Dunlop SP5000s and the Pirelli Sport Veloces.

225/55ZR16 Bridgestone Potenza RE730. Great in the dry and wet. Good wear too. These are the 10th set of tires on my SHO and I hope to replace these with another set of the same. Excellent product.
