i have the fk452 on my SLK i love them only thing ive noticed right one you push them to the limit they lose grip quite quickly tail kicks out could be the way the SLK is set up though....other than that they handle well and wet traction is fair and noise is very low 225/45/17

I agree with most here. The RE760's are great. I recently put a set on my parent's S2000 with great results. The Sumi's probably aren't too bad as I've had good success in using strictly Sumitomo stuff on my circle track cars (must have street tires as part of the rules). I would avoid the Falkens as I've heard mixed reviews, I've also had issues getting them to balance. I've had to force match numerous sets and even sent a few back that wouldn't balance at all.

A couple of days ago i ordered the Bridgestone RE760's in a 225/55/16 for my slicers.
396 bucks. Long story on how i got them that cheap but negotiating skills and time plays a role.

I read through all of the responses.

As opposed to the other post, IMO GY and Michies are overpriced for what you get. BFGs are decently-priced, but too damn heavy like Kumhos.

If I read it right, you are getting separate tires for autocross and not these?? That matters a LOT for what I would suggest. For auto-x and summer use, the Star Specs that James suggested are great, as are Falken Azenis and Hankook RS.

The hot tires at the moment are Conti Extreme Contact (Summer) and Extreme Contact DWS (probably about the best a/s tire.....if there is such a thing).

Bridgestones are cheap, but they are largely old-tech. You can do better.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT GET THE EXTREME CONTACTS DSW'S! They are complete garbage. They have alot of grip but cornering stability blows! Feels like you have 36inch tall tires it has that much tread squirm.

There are a few flks over on the other SHO lists, as well as the Legacy Forum, that would seriously disagree with you.

OTOH, if you you are running 225s on slicers, whaddya expect??

With my hankooks v4's in a 225.55.16 handled great with no tread squirm at all. Poosibly running a 215 would of helped but by no means would i say its a performance tire but it is a all season tire for sure, great traction in the wet and dry.

I do plan to pick up some auto-x tires but I have yet to run across any. I am looking to buy those used from somebody local(ish) since I only do 3-4 auto-x's a year max. There are a lot of auto-x nuts from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area so I have been lurking heavily on their local forums. With that being said, I still want a summer only tire since this car is only driven April-late October. If I do end up doing VIR at the convention this year it will be on whatever tires I purchase simply because I don't think I will have room for an extra set of wheels in the car. Now I am unsure of what tires I want.

Since we're on this subject. What is everyone's view on a/s tires? I'm looking for a set of tires for my new wheels, and some of the performance all seasons are almost as much as a 'summer only' tire. Now, these are based on Tire Rack's rating system, but whats the difference going to be other than the tread wear?

I found the DWS Extremes to be very good all season tires. If I had to run all seasons, these are the tires I use. However if you compare them to summer dry tires, the turn in is not as sharp and the sidewalls are softer than the summer tires.

Everybody I talk to says that unless you really need a/s tires, don't go with them. If they're summer only rims, I don't think it pays to sacrifice the performance and grip you will lose with an a/s tire.

Anybody have any opinions on the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110? For the price it seems like a decent tire although it is a little on the heavy side. I plan to order within the first couple weeks of March, if I have my mind made up by then...:nut:

After many years running a wide variety of tires, on an equaly wide range of vehicles, I've come to two conclusions:

1) If you live in an area where major bad winter weather is rare(particularly icy driving), and you're staying in if it happens, use tires that provide a top level wet/dry handling and then blend in other ride/handling characteristics important to you. Many A/S tires usually incorporate so many compromises that they do everything at mediocre levels at best.

2) If you live in an area where winter is a full 4th season, nothing beats a set of dedicated snow tires. Where ice and snow live for 3-4 months every year, A/S tires will do their best to get you in trouble. And remember, get top quality Ice-rate tires. That is the condition where you need the best help possible.

New tires will inherently have more "tread squirm" than worn out tires, simply because there is more tread to squirm.
Go with the RE760's. thats my .02
How many miles do you have on yours to make that recommendation?
Ha!, I dont even drive my SHOs in the winter!

Then I don't see any reason to get all-season tires.

That is my thought. I'm just trying to not go over board and buy nice tires. They wont see anything more than the street, at the most a couple of drag runs. I just want something thats good in the rain, also.
