Tire advice

I am starting to do some searching for tires for the car and just looking for as much advice and information I can get. I probably will go with 235/45/17 although I think 245's would fit but I don't know if I want to push it. Budget, I really don't want to spend more than $450-500 for a set, shipped. I will be picking up auto-x designated tires this spring/summer so the key things I'm looking for in these tires are: decent tread life, good wet traction, and of course good handling. I'm not too concerned about road noise since I threw that out the window a long time ago. I don't do burnouts but do enjoy spirited driving and taking corners/on ramps fast.

I really like discount tire direct because of their free shipping and rebates. I have purchased a few tires from them in the past and never had any problems.

I have heard good and bad about the FK452's.
Sumitomos I have seen left and right on mustangs and camaro's
Brdgestones I have not seen.

I work for a Tire shop and see alot of tires that come in.

I have been wanting the same FK452's for my rims and probably would go with those for my best bet. They seem to be a decent tire with good ratings and a good life on them and for a decent price.

I know a few people who are happy with the Falkens, But after driving on RE760 Sports across the country, In EVERY type of weather and on EVERY type of road imaginable, They have my vote. They are Very Quiet, Comfortable and stick very well. They are simply a great all around tire.

Between the three I'd go with the Bridgestones. When I sold tires I hated Falkens. Maybe they're better now. I don't know. But, I wouldn't want to find out. Personally when I look for tires I look at Michelin, BFG and Goodyear first.

Hmmm... Discount tire direct has them for only $2 more a tire but they have free shipping and looks like a $50 rebate! I will definitely consider these.

Right now, I'm mainly just leaning towards any tire that discount tire sells because of their free shipping and rebate program. Anybody else have any advice or opinions?

I'm pretty sure James meant Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec.

The DZ101 is an outdated tire and I don't think I'd go with the Falkens.

The Bridgestone is probably the best tire on your list, but if you are looking to save a couple bucks, I'd add the BFG g-Force Sport and Kumho Ecsta SPT to your list.

never had a good experience with Falkens, most customers who have had them put on elsewhere get 15-20k on a set(we are talking average daily drivers, not performance oriented people)

doesn't sound like you will find many tires that fit the expectations you have for that price range..... expect to pay around 600 for anything quality

I would look into something like the Continental Extreme Contact DW or Michelin Pilot Sport 2...... expect to pay, my dealer cost on those two tires are 144 and 182 for the michelin a piece..... The Continentals will probably last longer then the Michelin based on treadwear rating..... Of course no tire with decent traction is going to last long though..... you kind of have to choose between the two

if you decide not to care about treadlife, the Dunlops are sticky tires...... I would buy them normally for my car but they just don't last long.... handle great tho. The sumitomo ziii's don't last long at all, I would also check out the General UHP or Fuzion ZRi for decent performance, cheaper prices, but not the longest treadlife..

This. I know a few people with the dz101 who wish they went with somthing else. The same thing goes with the yokohama s drive, I would never go with that tire again.

I am running on Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 on my STS-V. So far they have been wearing and handling fine for a high performance summer tire. They are pretty good in the rain. However when the outside temp drops below 40F the tire gets a little more slippery.
