Has anyone tinted their tail lights? Any pics?

There was a guy that got SEL tail lights for his SHO and he tinted them. Shoulda been about this time last year he posted pics on them. May want to try a search on the performance & mod section.

I was wondering the same thing for my gen2.

Chuck

I had mine tinted and got pulled over 3 days later. The cop said he thought my lights weren't working and pulled me. Gave me a warning and off they went. Unless you lightly tint them or have some strong ass bulbs, I don't recommend it. I can see where the cop was coming from after the fact. A lot of folks coming up behind you may not pay that close attention sometimes and BAM! I got to thinking I WANT folks to see my tail lights then. I'll see if I can't find a pic of mine for ya though. My whole black '92 was blacked out, minus some grey wheels. It was bad ass fo' SHO!

Mike,
Don't tint you headlights too dark. I did mine fairly dark and I have to drive with my high beams on. And I don't get "flashed back" at either, if that tells you how dark they are. I used to never use my high beams at all because the low beams were so bright. I wish I hadn't done it sometimes, but I drive more in the daytime than at night. It's a BIG disadvantage, but it looks good. Hopefully Ford will have some tinted ones for the SHO in a year or so and I'll invest in some of those. Looking forward to seeing your car done though too. She sure is purdy! ;)

My painter was starting to tape off the chrome (shit) trim and he noticed it was peeling again. I had him stop taping them to prevent further peeling. Now what? Non chrome lights?

Yea I was kind of afraid of that (heads being too dark).

Do you happen to have any pics anywhere of yours??

The double dinger for me is that my entire windshield is tinted at 20%..... it's not that big of a deal for me seeing out at night, because having the HID's counteracts that......

So I was already thinking maybe just a light enough shade to give the tinted appearance w/o sacrificing too much of the actual light output.

Same w/ the tails...... just enough to take a lil edge off of the red portion of the tails. I'm monkeying around with the thought of just doing the red portion of the tails only, and leaving the clear portion (where the turn/reverse lights are located)......

Love to see some pics of yours in the interim :thumb:

I can't find the thread about mine now, so here's a few, even with the non-chrome front end. Didn't want to get to off topic here from what way2evil was looking for, so here's a quickie. :naughty:

You can opt for the non-SHO tails or get some new SHO ones. The new batch hasn't peeled yet and shouldn't. A new vendor does the chrome now for the housings IIRC. And it looks like Ford may have nipped this in the bud before all the 2010s had that issue.

This is my second set of tail lights and they started to peel when he put painters blue tape on them. Will the dealer give me non chrome lights if I complain?

I would hope so. It would cost them less money for sure, but I hadn't heard of a second set peeling until now. Don't tell em you put tape on it, but then again, blue painters tape shouldn't have taken off the chrome whatsoever. I'd give them a ring tomorrow and see.

Go with the no chrome tails, Kirk's car looks great without the chrome. And the chrome tails should not be peeling off thats just garbage if you ask me, it's a sign saying no chrome please from your car....

I did mine this spring...
3 light coats VHT, 3 heavy coats of high gloss clear coat and baked @ 200* for 20 minutes.....
