I was driving my SHO the other day and hit the gas and heard a pop then it died out and would not restart. When I tried to restart it, it sounded different like something wasn't right. Do you think that my timing belt could have snapped? If so do SHO's have a piston valve interfering engine?

You could have snapped the timing belt - The V6 SHO is a non-interference engine - unless you have hot cams or alot of carbon build up on the pistons.

Thanks I'll have my shop look at it and see. Do you know about how much it cost to have some one replace a timing belt for a sho?

Back in Michigan ... again.
A belt is typically $50-$70 dollars and it's about a 4-6 hour job for a competant mechanic, depending on how stubborn your SHO is coming apart. 6 hours x 60/hour + $60 avg. for timing belt = $420. Not cheap by any means...shop around to your local mechanics & get a consensus on price. I'd avoid the Ford dealer if possible because you will pay a LOT more, guaranteed.

The Gates T248 is $34.77 from RockAuto.com. You can check if your timing belt has snapped by removing the oil fill cap and watching the camshaft and cam lobe for rotation as someone else turns the ignition key. If no motion then no belt.

Thanks guys. It was my timing belt. My local mechanic only charges 40 bucks an hour and he said that its only a 3.5hr job so it looks like this is only going to cost me about 140 for labor and whatever the belt cost. Since its going to be part I'm going to have some other work done as well. Thanks again. :D
