"The lower timing belt cover is then reinstalled with the small "door" removed. You then rotate the crankshaft just short of two turns in the CW direction until the first, yellow mark on the crankshaft damper aligns with the "0" degree mark on the timing cover. Do not turn the crank in the CCW direction to position it. This CW rotation and 60 degrees BTDC positioning is to tension the belt to its highest level."

This is an exerpt from one of Sdpatt's posts. I have my timing belt on, aligned, and I have the lower timing belt cover on. I have a question about the "yellow mark" on the crankshaft damper, I don't think I have this, so how will I know when it is aligned?

Scratch my first question, I found the marks, but now I have a different question... Is there any reason for my crankshaft pulley not to turn when I have the car in 5th and I am turning the wheel? shrug

Too much friction? Is the driver's side tire off the ground?

Try turning the crankshaft damper with a pair of strong, gloved hands. I find that much quicker and more accurate than mounting the tire and wheel back on the hub.

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't thinking straight because soon after I posted I realized that simply spinning one tire, resulted in the other tire spinning in the opposite direction. I was hoping to finish tonight but Auto Zone sold me the wrong AC/alternator belt, so I'm stuck there until tomorrow.

Since you mentioned the AC/Alternator belt, I am guessing that you have the 3.0L engine. Here are sources and part numbers for the belts for both engines. The Gates part numbers indicate the AC/Alt belt is a 44.5" long 6-rib belt where the PS/water pump belt is a 50: long 4-rib belt. There should also be a cross reference guide in the belt section at any auto parts store to help you get the correct belt.

3.0L Gates K040500 RockAuto.com $12.66
3.0L Gates K060445 RockAuto.com $13.75
3.2L Gates K060854 RockAuto.com $24.79
3.2L Goodyear 4060850 CarParts.com $20.19

Well the belt I got was 44.5" long, but was too hard to put on, so my dad brought home a motorcraft belt from his work. It was 45" long and still a PITA to get on, but we got it on. Is it always a hassle getting on the AC/Alternator belt? BTW, thanks for the help.
