What is it? I am getting conflicting answers. A mechanic told me it,s a belt, another told me chain, some SHO's I looked at, the owners said that the manual said chain. I have seen 60k services call for a belt...what is it? Thanks guys.

If you're speaking about a V6 SHO, it's both. A main timing belt, driven by the crankshaft, turns the two intake cams. Two slave timing chains, driven by the intake cams, turn the exhaust cams. The timing belt is the most common maintenance item to replace. Chains are rarely replaced unless they have streched due to a failed tensioner.

In a V8, it's all chains.
