Hey all,

okay, I just got done reading a post on sfb, and I'm pretty sure mine need to be changed. so... my question is what do I need to do to acomplish this? jack the car up, support the subframe, take off the 18mm bolt and then what? I've got a pretty serious clunk on the drivers side right under my feet, so I'm pretty sure its the SFB's, I got a clutch 6 months ago, and the mechanic said that I sould get new ones soon. so should I get new ones all around, or just the back ones where the sound is coming from?

Thanks Guys,

ps. where's the best place to get them?

To change your SFBs you need a floor jack and some jack stands along with various wrenches and some PB Blaster. The day before soak all the bushings with as much PB as you can get on them.

You will do the back and the front as pairs. This is so you don't loose your alignment.

Jack the car up by the subframe with the jack centered under the radiator. Put the two jack stands under the rails under the seats and behind the subframe. Lower the jack and let the car settle on the jack stands. Remove the bolts from the subframe and let the subframe slowly settle on the remaining two. It doesn't make any difference whether you do the front or back first. Hopefully evey thing will come out ok. The front also has 4 small bolts that need to be removed. I would suggest the use of Gen 3 rear bushings all around which have two part numbers. There is some slight modification needed.

thanks for the info, I'm going to get on it this weekend hopefully.

quick question, I don't understand recalls all that much, to my knowledge my car has not had the new SFB hardware installed, how do I get the dealers to do this? is there a time limit to get the car into them, or do they have to do it when ever the car comes in? Also, my car is licenced in Idaho, and I live in Utah, (going to school), so do I need to take it up there or will the Utah dealer do it?

Thanks all for any help,
Karl

Neither Utah or Idaho are included in the NHTSA recall. You are probably on your own for getting it done.

As for the parts, read the thread that Paul indicated. It has the needed information.

Recalls:

All you have to do is call the local Ford dealer service department and give them your vin number located on the lower drivers side of the windsheild. They will run the number and tell you if there are any recalls outstanding on your car. It doesn't cost anything to get the number ran or to get the recall accomplished at the dealer. It doesn't matter if you are the original owner either...but I guess some recalls are state specific.

I asked a dealer or two if my car was due for that recall.
They typed my VIN in and said"nope".

They also could not tell me if it had been done or not, they could only tell me they didn't show it due for it.

I am the third owner of my SHO.
I just pulled up the carpet to see if it was done, and it was.

The recall kit has the complete directions, but the procedure generally is:

Use a rt-angle drill and a 2 1/2" (?) hole saw bit to drill through the floorboard over the nut. Remove the bolt from the bottom, then replace the nut from the top. Reassemble using the new bolt and washer and install the included rubber hole plug into the newly cut hole. Reinstall the carpet.
