Does your car make a howling noise at idle sometimes because mine does it all the time once the revs go below 1,200 rpm. It sound like someone blowing over an opening of a glass bottle. The howling is coming right where the silencer cone used to be..

Well I have the whole inner box removed now but I did have just the cone removed for about 4 months and never had any such noise problems.

Run a 4" duct from the air box opening down to the grill area. This will prevent any such noises.

I have removed the silencer cone from 2 of my SHO's and never experienced that noise. I will pull the cone from my 91 soon and hopefully it won't make that noise.

I have heard this sound too, and wonder about it. I suspect it may be related to imperfections in my intake system. If the parts are positioned properly, this may affect the original design, and cause a strange sound. I believe my SHO has had a couple fender-benders, and perhaps this upset the system. Take for example new cars which have had fair damage - although they may look repaired, it is very difficult to make everything seal together properly again.

Mine used to make that noise, before a K&N and after. I double check everything, and I don't have the silencer removed (will soon). Anyways I figured I might as well get used to it. Well, my IAB died, so I replaced it and the noise as not reappeared since the new IAB was installed 7k ago.
Just a thought, worked for me.

I had that noise for years. Finally had to replace my IAB (for other reasons) and the noise disappeared.

This could be the ticket!
