This weekend (13th and 14th) crank sensor time!

I have enlisted the help of a friend (who has no SHO experience so far) and we are going to attempt replacement of the crank position sensor this weekend. I'm going to get crackin' on Saturday noon-ish probably. It will be done in the driveway... hey, there's plenty of light and space to work with

If anyone cares to drop by and lend a hand, advice, or even moral support you are welcome to drop by... I live in Big Bend (neighboring Muskego)

Also if anyone has any words of wisdom for doing this job, please chime in!!! I am using the SHO Phoenix Project for the guide to getting down to the CPS.

One bit of advice, since that side of the engine is going to be stripped down, replace the timing belt while your in there.

Yeah about a month or so ago my timing belt went out so i did the timing belt crank position sensor water pump and front main. I wasnt about to take everything apart again

yes, replace that belt, and make sure your timing is good while you're at it...
also make sure to gap it right!
we apparently didn't do it right the two or three times we did mine and it didn't run
don't use lock-tite on the timing belt covers either
i used it because they were incredibly oily... it didn't help and it made it a major pain in the rear
and while you're in there you might want to clean stuff up/replace seals and such - just because you won't have to do it later then
i'd love to help, but i'm unfortunately busy this weekend

if you drop one of the little screws that hold the sensor in into the pulley, just keep turning it and have your friend look up top, it will eventually go right up where you can either grab it with your hands or a pair of tweezers
and make sure to heat the pulley before sticking it back on - also make sure to do the starter bump unless you have a REALLY good impact wrench - i have an extra crank bolt if you need it (rust/stripping out/whatever)

Yeah pulling that crank bolt can be a pain if it hasnt been pullled before..... Make sure when you pull that sprocket off that your puller doesnt **** the threads inside the crankshaft... if it does.. you need to go find someone that will make a 14 x 1.5 fine thread tap.... dont ask how i know this...

and don't ask anyone in the milwaukee area to bust off the harmonic balancer pulley with an impact gun for you. they'll all say no.. bastards. we went to EVERY SHOP when we visited Wis. and had to do a crank sensor in my sho while there. we put our cars together with air impact tools and they are a bitch to get off by hand when need be. everyone was such an ass about it. crazy. no one around here is like that. they'd do it for 15 bucks. well finally National Spring and alignment did it for us (because we sold our wis. business to them when the family moved here to NC so we knew them) good luck though. if it isn't too rusty... i'd say 3 hrs tops for first time. good luck!!!!

Well glad you got it back on the road its about time! but yeah it is a lot of fun just for the CPS, thats why i did everything when i blew the timing belt
