I have 94-95 taurus spindles, I have 93 Mark VIII rotors which is the same part number for a 96 up SHO and it measure 11.6 in diameter, I went to the parts store and got calipers/brackets for a 96 up SHO , part number 301 & 300? by Fenco and my stupid bracket is 1/4" too short, what the hecks going on :cuss:. I checked the Autozone numbers to make sure and they list the SHO and non SHO as having the same bracket and calipers for the front, what did I miss

Prolly where you got them brackets, I donno if autozone carries the right ones. If you try a search you will find out where to get them and correct stamp that must be on them.

I think you have the wrong caliper brackets. Gen III SHO and SLO brackets are different. The correct brackets have FN74 stamped on them. I bought the loaded calipers at Advanced for $45 each. They came with the correct brackets.

I've never heard that Mark VIIIs do in fact have the same rotors as the Gen III SHO, but that doesn't mean that they aren't the same.

For Advanced Auto, I believe the correct part numbers are Left: 16-4382A and Right: 16-4383A.

At least thats what I wrote down a while ago.

I live in canada, theres just too much snow up here for us to think straight  , ummm can some try the Autozone site and look up both cars(SHO and SLO), it came back with the same part numbers, same with the parts store up here. Dont know if this helps but the bracket said 5220 3 795W and the caliper said 5187, the site also shows that both brackets are the same, so Im asking for the right parts but getting the wrong ones? , I dont know anymore :nut: . I got new wheel bearings and separated the splash-shields and have everything sandblasted and painted up so it looks like new, but cant put them together, so annoying

To be sure, just get the calipers for a 95 Lincoln Continental. There's no dispute there.

I doubt you're find what you need at Autozone. They were nothing but a waste of time when I was doing the brake upgrade and looking for the brackets. I finally just picked up the loaded calipers (w/correct brackets) from Advanced.

There is no company that sells the caliper brackets seperate from the caliper. If someone behind a parts desk tells you that they can get you the bracket seperately it's the wrong bracket. To verify that you have the correct bracket look for "FN74" engraved into it.

So late 2nd gen spindles, MK VIII rotors and calipers are a good, cheap upgrade for front brakes? Someone PM me some details here, please. I'd love to be able to stop......

When looking up parts for the 1996-1999 SHO, it's best to skip 1996 and look them up under 1997. I have heard that many catalogs list the wrong parts for the 1996 year.

It's commonly called a 96 upgrade (uses the same rotors as a 96 SHO). There's a good page on SHOtimes about this as well as a lot of discussion here. One or two of the vendors sell kits.

Calipers from a 94- up SHO, brackets and rotors from a 96- up SHO (some other cars have equivalent parts).

The "96+ Brake Upgrade" is a very worthwhile mod, IMO.

I didn't have to scrounge around for spindles since '94-'95 spindles are the same as those on the Gen IIIs, but even if I had to pick up a set I still would have done the mod and ended up feeling real good about it. Braking is vastly improved on my SHO as a result of the upgrade. And best of all, you don't have to be an expert wrench to knock it off, either. I say go for it.

Let me just say that to do the "96 upgrade", you need the knuckles (spindles) from a 94 or 95 Taurus, SHO, or Sable with ABS (if your car has ABS). I don't think any other cars have the same knuckles. Some years of Continentals might, but I'm not sure.

So if I pluck the spindles from the boneyard (the local U-Wrench-It has 2 2nd gen SHOs, 1 94, 1 95), how much should this all cost me? I need calipers, pads, rotors and caliper brackets from a 3rd GEN?

Gee, I've owned a SHO for 4 years now, been on this forum forever and a damn day, and this is the first time I've really looked into this.

The spindles have to come from a 94 or 95 SHO, so the jy parts you have access to should all be fine. The calipers are the same across 94-GenIII SHOs, so calipers from the jy cars will work, or get loaded calipers with the brackets (not overly expensive from several sources, good way to get the brackets and new calipers). New rotors for 96 SHO shouldn't be hard to find, either. Call around and see what kinda quotes you can get.

theres lots of combinations, I really want to buy the PBR calipers off a Mustang (dual piston ) with 11.6" rotors but I heard they only fit with 17" rims and I think?

So......calipers and spindles (i.e. hub assy) I can yank off the 95 SHO, and then just swap em onto mine and buy pads, rotors and a caliper bracket from a 3rd gen?

(just wanna make sure I got all my ducks in a row and everything right before I go on a spending spree and wind up with a bunch of parts I can't even sell on E-bay)

Yup, but I'd suggest that before you pay the jy for used calipers price the loaded calipers at AZ/Checker/Pep Boys/whoever. That's the caliper and bracket assembly together, so you'll get the right brackets and new calipers together. My understanding is that they're not that expensive this way, so it may be a better deal than getting the jy calipers.
