I am looking for a third brake light assembly that goes in the rear wing. I've got two diodes not working & it failed MO inspection. Dealer wants big bucks for it. I'll consider adding the HMSL to the rear package panel if someone has that. Would like some advice as to where to splice in the wires tho.

It doesn't work at all or there are two LED's bad in it?

I would think that you could maybe rig up a new circuit inside it. A good electronics shop should be able to fix it or convert the circuit to something that would work.

I've never been inside one of the CHMSL's to see what's going on in there though so I may be a bit off base.

The 3rd brake light does work, however, two diodes do not and that is why it fails the state inspection. Rather bogus IMHO, but I either replace it or do an end-around by putting in a CHMSL on the package tray--since those only use bulbs... Has anybody else had to do this??

Thx for the feedback runningjon. If I cannot get by cheaper and, at least temporarily, with the CHMSL off the pkg tray, I'll do that. Does anyone have the pkg tray CHMSL??

The standards for the Missour safety inspection are in this document: http://www.sos.state.mo.us/adrules/csr/previous/11csr/11csr0302/11c50-2.pdf

I found no mention of the highmounted brake light (specifically) as an inspection item in the section relating to either lighting or brakes.

The program is administered by the MSHP. you can call them in Jeff City at (573)526-6132 (Motor Vehicle Inspection Division) and ask for an interpretation. If you need it, I have a gray shell for a high-mounted brakelight for my 89, am in Florissant, and I am an electronics tech (and shade tree mechanic).

woohoo !! Good info. I called and got the following response... it is technically a failure, however, the 'inspector' has the liberty in this case to overlook such a minor infraction & 'pass' the vehicle. So I called the shop and they agreed to let it pass. Thx for your help !!
