thermostat

I just noticed that my temp gauge was all the way down just above the C on the water temp guage. When the car was ideling the guage went up to the middle. Then when I started driving it on the highway it went all the way back down again. I think that there may not be a thermostat in the car. So I went to autozone and purchased part number 492-192 which is a thermostat. Before I install it I want to make sure that this is the correct one.

Be careful, some have had problems with a non oem tstat. I think the general consensus is to put in the motorcraft one. Regardless, make sure it has a jiggle valve and the valve goes up.

I have a non motorcraft t-stat in my car and have had no problems with it thus far. No jiggle valve either.

Also, according to autozone's website, the t-stat you listed is the OE temp part.

A stuck open t-stat will cause the engine to stay cooler as you listed. Goes down rapidly when on the open road. Also very low heat in the winter time. This is ******* your cats so it's best to replace a bad t-stat promptly.

I have run other cars of mine without a t-stat in the past with no problems. I'm unsure as to what damage this could cause our SHOs, but it would run cooler as if it was stuck open, perhaps more so.

Mine ran stuck open when I first got the car for quite some time. No apparent problems. Sucked in the winter though. No heat!
