Hey guys let me tell you about me. I'm 16 and haven't had the money to get my SHO yet. I haven't got a permit yet due to financial problems in my home. I don't have a lot of money but this is what got me into SHO's. Honestly i was a Mopar Kid forever and still love them. But they cost to much, then i got into 5.0 mustangs and they were cheap but insurance will **** me. Being young, so my brother said " Why not check out a SHO?" i laughed and said a Taurus no way. But my older brother told me how he had 2 a burgandy one and a silver one. He told me of how we used to race his 5.0 buddies. But anyways they are in my price range and i can't get one until I get a license btw Drivers ed is 600-800 dollars!!! So I have to get some cash fast. But anyways i am in the market for a SHO manual but i could do a auto as a last resort. There are alot of them surprisingly in my area but i have no money So im getting a job and buying a SHO. This may sound weird to ask in this area but i don't think it deserves a whole thread.

How much will a SHO insurance be for a16 year old?

Could i lie and say its a 4 banger version?

Is that insurance fraud?

Fraud yes, but don't worry they'll know with a vin check. Your insurance shouldn't be too insaine... but it won't be cheap either. And just because the car is cheap dosen't mean that maintaining it will be either. Get ready to learn how to work on cars..

Eric I do know how to work on cars . (not sounding like a ****) I have worked on cars since age 10 so I'm sorry if i didn't mention that but i am hoping to go to school for automotive.I can tell you anything about Dodge Plymouth or Chryslers from 1965-79 but i can also tell you about How there was a 2 valve 4.6 Ford v8 for a few years then switched to 3 valve. That 95 was the last year for a 5.0 mustang and only 2 years of sn95 body style. Honestly not trying to seem a know it all but i fully understand cars and how/why they work. I could take apart a Chevy 350 and put it back together in a day. I know what and how.


I have heard that SHO's shift really long and i don't see to many short throws out there for them. Plus if there is who/how much? Is the shifting really that long?

If you are ready to get in the SHO game my advise for you would be to decide exactly what you want in the car and wait till you find one with exactly what you want. I bought my first SHO 5 years ago and am now on my 13th one. None of the ones i've had were bad and i've loved everyone of them. I just keep trading up for better quality ones and one that were better cared for. Dont just jump on the first one that seems like a good deal because more than likely it wont be the one you keep.

Short shifters are available. They pop up on here and ebay from time to time. They are pricey though. Run between $250 - $300.

If you think you know about cars, buy a SHO and be prepared to become stumped at some of the problems that'll come up. I personally wouldn't recommend a SHO at 16 when you'll likely buy one that has been driven hard and put away wet.

Welcome to the forum and if you so buy a SHO, I would suggest reading as much as you can here as it can save you a lot of money and heart ache. Of course, IMHO and YMMV.

You could, and then they will inform you that you are wrong and correct it. Still the number of cyl' will not make much of a difference, premium wise. Maybe 2-3 dollars/month.

The car's so old it doesent even make a difference. At your age you're going to get reemed either way.

Keep in mind these are cheap to buy , but not cheap to maintain. Being a gearhead will help you alot , if not you'll find out by yourself quick enough how fast bills goes up. They are great cars , but keep them in shape if you want your SHO to treat you well.

Insurance is pretty cheap on them.

They can be had for cheap, but most likely will need to be brought up to speed.

Yeah, I agree with the others; being 16 will **** you far more on insurance than the fact that you're driving a 15 year old taurus that gets totaled at $32. Liability is where it's at when you're that young.

In any case, you will quickly discover that SHOs are an absolute nightmare to work on for the first few months until you correct all the major deficiencies, then - as long as you keep up on maintenance - they will be fairly breezy. A stock SHO will outrun a stock 5.0. There are few, if any, stock 5.0s, but the point remains; the SHO is quicker than most people give it credit for.

Just don't do burnouts in them, and read back through the forums; there is a treasure trove of info in the history.
