I am preparing to tackle the 60k and I have a few questions. First of all I am trying to cut costs as much as I can but I dont want to screw myself. Should I go with a new or reman. water pump. I would like to use the reman since it seems to be about 175. less. The reman. brand is GNB if it makes a lick of difference. I have read that the cps is smart to do as long as its apart. What if the water pump has not leaked? Is that its only failure or would I be crazy to not replace that if its fine? Lastly, I know I need motor mounts but I have not taken the time to figure out which ones. Is it easier to replace those when I tear the front of the motor apart for the 60k? Thanks for any input you guys may give.

I believe Ford doesn't make SHO water pumps anymore so they are all remans. I would do the CPS even if the water pump hasn't gone yet.

I recommend the A1 Cardone remanufactured front pump casing (with shaft, impeller, new seals, new bearings and gasket). I have emailed you the parts information and the procedures for the timing belt and valve gapping. If you are not sure of the status of the parts, it makes sense to be conservative. For the front end work, I recommend the timing belt, accessory belts, water pump, front main seal and crankshaft position sensor. The total cost of all the parts is $167.11 + tax or shipping. The rest of the exhorbitant cost you hear for the service is labor. You should also check into the upper engine service (valve gapping, plugs, plug wires, valve cover and plug well seals).

The forward motor mount by the radiator is the most stressed and most replaced. I finally replaced my rear motor mount after 256,350 miles and found it to be long ago in need of replacement. I could only find the rear mount as a Ford part. Check the online Ford parts outlets. I got the Perf Plus reinforced front mount, but now think the extra expense only gains you margin after the rubber insulator has already failed. It will at least keep you from polishing the manifold on the hood blanket.

would a "polished" spot on the passengerside front of the intake indicate a bad front motor mount?
