I'm trying to wire a speaker in the driver's door around the amplifier and to my head unit. But what is the black box above the tube for the wires on the door? And can I get it open? The bolt seems to just keep turning. Thanks for any suggestions!

Its very hard to open. I got mine open and I will even have a harder time closing it. It is a wire connection point and you will not be able to run new wire to the door speaker through it. Best bet is to use the exsisting wire. You can either splice into it in the trunk or get an adapter and wire into it. I found the speaker plug connector diagram on shotime but after printing it out and comparing it to my wires they didn't match so I had to take a speaker back out to make sure I got the right ones.

Save yourself the trouble and either buy the adapter kit that Crutchfield (or others, I'm sure) sell which eliminates the stock amp and runs direct amp output from an aftermarket head unit to the speakers (I assume you want to do this) or wire it in directly through plug in the trunk that goes from the amp output to the speakers.

Unless you're going to be pushing some SERIOUS wattage to the speakers in the doors and rear tray, the stock wiring should be OK to something like 50 watts. It's a huge hassle to rewire the factory door wiring.

Let me know if you want schematics, I should have them available for the factory amp connectors.

I tried to go around the amp using the factory wiring, but found that it appears to have been cut somewhere. None of the connectors on either side of the amp have continuity with the pins on the speaker's connector. I might drill a hole in the door and body and run a wire alongside the wire tube (& black box). Unfortunatly, much of the factory wiring is hacked off in my sho from a previous owner. I got it with a Pioneer head unit connected to the rear speakers, with the amp bipassed. I've now got the passenger front speaker hooked up, but I didn't have to go through a black box! wink
