It's that time again!!
The 6th Annual Lapeer Spring Meet is on Saturday May 6th at Lapeer Dragway.
There is also a Gingerman track event on Thursday May 4th, two days prior to the Lapeer day. See the separate notice for the TCCA Gingerman Track Day that has been posted.

http://www.lapeerdragway.com
http://www.gingermanraceway.com/

Saturdays are Test-N-Tune, and for $25 you can get a LOT of runs in. Please
note that a helmet is required for all cars running. Any helmet will do, and
they also rent helmets at the track for $5.

It will be our "usual" routine of a gathering at Big Buck (in Auburn Hills)
on Friday night, the track on Saturday, then dinner on Saturday
after the track.

If anyone needs hotel info, email me, but there are a lot of hotels near Big
Buck in Auburn Hills on Opdyke, like Motel 6, Holiday Inn Express, Marriott
Courtyard (walking distance to Big Buck).

Bump. So who's coming?

The weather forecast doesn't look good for next weekend but it'll probably change before then. Not sure what the point of the long-term forecast is since it's never right anyway.

I wish I could make it again, but I have other things to take care of during turkey season! Maybe in the fall again.

Lemme use this weekend as an example......

Well over a week ago, the forecast for yesterday and today (Saturday & Sunday) was solid rain. I had plans to drive to Buffalo, so I was watching it.

The Sat-Sun rain forecast was the same through Wed night. Then, Thursday night, the weekend rain forecast went away!!

Remember that this is Spring in Michigan!! over the past week, there have been a few days where we have run the central a/c during the day, then turned on the furnace at night!!

FWIW, I got back from Buffalo a few hours hours. The weekend was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!! Temps in the mid 60s to mid 70s, and sunny!! Couldn't have asked for a better weekend!!

For selfish reasons, if it "has" to rain for one of the track days, it can rain for Gingerman. Not that I want rain for a track day, but I have been curious to see how my summer tires (and AWD) can do on a track when it's wet.

Back in Michigan ... again.
At this point the weather is looking great for Saturday, sunny and temps around 60.

Weather for GingerMan should be good too; some lingering showers in the early morning are possible but it should clear out quick.

What time does the track open? What time do people think they will be getting there?

Not sure about GingerMan, but Lapeer opens at noon and I'll be there around that time.

Wanna meet up for a little cruise? I'm rolling 23N to 69 :thumb:

As some folks learned, I-69 between Flint & Lansing was closed on saturday. The stretch between Flint & Lapeer remained at one lane for construction.

Anyway, for those of you who didn't come, Saturday was one of the most perfect days we've had!! Sunny, temps n the 50-52 range until it "shot up" to 55 later in the day, with a mild east-to-north beeze. Absolutely wonderful!! Even though I was driving like shyte and only got down to a 13.46 and couln't better my previous 13.39!! Oh well.......

FWIW, we also had a great day at Gingerman last Thursday. 65 degrees, sunny, with a breeze. All around, it was a wonderful pair of events with great weather.

We probably had the lowest turnout since the Lapeer event has been beyond a few local folks, but we didn't care, and it was the lost opportunity for those who didn't come!! :)

I-75 South was also closed. I had to take a 10 mile detour through Detroit, scaring the crap out of myself.

It's too bad you guys couldnt' make it, and it's especially bad that Ian blew that brake line!

I ran a 16.2 at 86.05 MPH in my Duratec. If I can figure out how to launch my car, I should be running about 3-5 tenths quicker.

Anyway, Ian...how was Reka feeling after the shots at Big Buck???

Surprisingly she was doing quite well. My stomach wasn't doing the greatest. Probably was the jalapeno's. At least I didn't get the ring of fire the next morning.

I had every intention of getting there but the 91 was in dire need of a halfshaft that day, and then I got a call saying my wife's grandfather died. Was a rough weekend for the Chrisman.

I'm sorry to hear about the low turnout. Lapeer isn't the greatest of tracks, but it's one of the few places I know where you can pretty much make as many passes as you want.

I'm in the process of a little reorganization for Tri-State SHO/SVT, with a little effort perhaps I can spank this event back up for the fall :thumb:

Random thoughts.....

Turnout was a non-issue. Being absolutely honest about it, I thought the size of the group was about perfect, with maybe a dozen cars, and just under 20 people at dinner afterwards, as well as manageable groups at Big Buck. Now, the number of cars at the track doesn't really matter (being an open t-n-t day), but the other social events work with the 20-30 max that we usually get.

Not that we would turn anyone away, but in the past the suggestion has come up to invite other groups beyond the SHO & TCCA folks, and I haven't cared for that idea.

The Chicago folks didn't make it this time (Eck, Fullone), nor did Pittsburgh (Garber) but Kirk came from MA, and he hasn't been in for it in two years.

Tentative plans, AFAIK, are to do the same Gingerman - Lapeer pairing in October, but nothing has been discussed yet.
