tach doesn't work, engine temp all the hot

im rather confused, i get in my car and turn the key to the on position and i notice that the only gauge light that comes on is the battery light. The parking brake was set and that light didn't come on and neither did the oil pressure or check engine light all the usual stuff that lights up when u start a car didn't light up. It started up fine the i noticed that the tach gauge doesn't work either, it just rests at zero rpm. And it said that the egine temp is all the way hot? It was just fine the other day. Anyone got any ideas?

Check the connections to the gauge cluster behind the unit. My 1990 SLO came partly disconnected and the temp gauge stopped working. Could be a bad ground.

how would i get to the cluster, is it underneath the dash or do i have to take the dash apart to get to it?

Your gonna have to disconnect the speedo cable. Then you have to remove the black trim piece and pull the gauge cluster out. The connections are behind the cluster on both sides. Its very tight!
