Does anyone know how long it would take to change the t-stat and sending unit? Also, how much does a T-stat cost. Im pretty sure this will solve the problem of my car running so cold. Thanks in advance?

Ford Parts Network, RT-1112 T-Stat, $19.99; Temp Sending Unit SW-2328, $6.99.

You don't need to remove the intake to do this, although it might make it a little easier to get to. Remove the upper rad. hose, coil pack cover, plug wires off the coil pack, coil pack itself. That should get you in there close enough. Be very careful not to over-torque on the temp sender or the t-stat studs upon re-installation. Total time would be about 1 hour, start to finish.

Good Luck.

I have replaced the thermostat with removing only the air inlet hose and upper filter box lid. Universal joints and extensions on a 1/4" socket wrench help to access the two 10mm nuts. Careful, they are aluminum and don't need much torque. The water seal at the separation of the metal housings is provided by the rubber seal around the outside perimeter of the thermostat. Make sure it is installed. The total time depends a great deal on your experience and the tools available.

Fred, I hope you wouldn't charge an hour of labor for that at your new shop. I'm not the quickest with the wrench and even I can do thermostats in less than 10 minutes.

Well it depends. It usually takes me that long because I'm only using one hand - the other one's got my coffee...

No, I was just trying to give a realistic time for someone who hasn't done it. It's an easy job, providing you don't break the stud on re-assembly.

One other piece of advice for Chris - do remove the upper hose, don't just fold it out of the way. You don't want to risk putting too much pressure on the upper radiator neck, and after all, it's only one extra hose clamp to undo. Not worth the risk.

hmmmmmm......then I guess I have to replace my t-stat as well. On my recent trip to Montreal....brrrrrrr.......from NYC my temp. gauge read below the C mark, and whenever I stopped at the rest area it jumped between M & A. Even @ -15º Celcius it pumped out good heat.

I recommend the OEM part, I've had lots of problems with AZ thermostats. Might cost a bit more upfront, but at least you will only do it once.
