Ecology on 25th ave near Van Buren.

Like the title says. There was a T-Bird Supercoupe... with all the stuff under the hood intact, still had all the gauges including boost, and had the 5-speed transmission (still there) and rear. Looked pretty untouched except for the radio missing. Also there was a white Gen2, ATX, again looking fairly untouched except for the radio.

I may make a run at 'em this weekend, but I don't have a pressing need for anything, no stake in it, etc. If anybody else wants to meet up this weekend and pull some parts, shoot me a PM.

Update: Snuck out there over the weekend with StreetlightSHO. Sweated most of a morning to pull 4 new-looking Eibachs on Tokicos from the white Gen2. SCORE! Also got a driver door panel and seat switches I had been needing. The white car also had Aluminum SFBs, but some of them were frozen together and I was out of energy. I was thinking of getting the ATX as well, but it was clearly busted. Motor looked really clean, but I don't have that much free cash sitting around.

There was also another green Gen2 ATX with a really clean engine, and a currant red '91+ with a good hood and a perfect driver side amber tail-light (pass. side busted). I may go back after that hood if I find the energy.

The Supercoupe was an '89. Still had all the gaugesm the 5-spd, the motor with all the plumbing, and the rear when I saw it last over the weekend, although somebody pulled the fan and snagged the computer.

StreetlightSHO also saw a Gen2 Sable with a black interior.

Anybody else up for another run? I still need to find the truck parts I was after...

Maybe I might go after the tranny in that 91...but I still am mad at my SHO and am on the fence about parting it out.

Don't do it! Fix it!

But yeah as Josh was saying, if anyone is planning a black interior swap, the Sable was a bucket seat car with an intact center console and very good leather. Granted they are Sable seats, so no side bolsters, but no rips on the passenger or rear seats, just a couple very small rips on the driver's. ALTHOUGH the Ecology junk yard seems to have a rather nasty habit of bending out of whack the rear seats to get to the fuel pump, so you would have to straiten out the rear bench....

I know there is an Ecology on 27th Ave; is that the one you are talking about? It has a huge water tower with "Ecology" on it.

I wouldn't mind having that 5 speed out of the T-Bird SuperCoupe for a future project, if one of you youngin's wanted to earn some money and/or trade for any of my SHO stuff.

Troy, Mikey just coralled my last SHO transaxle that is non-ventilated, but I do have this ventilated one that you can have for parts if you want.

Yep. Ecology on 27th. Man, they had some clean looking 460s in a few trucks. Pity so much else needs toget changed to swap from a 390 FE. I still might do it if I find one w/ all the parts for the swap. No replacement for displacement.

Tom, let me know if you want to head out there. I'd be glad to lend a hand if I can make it.

I've actually got a good Gen1 back seat bottom in black full leather taking up space in my garage. If anybody needs it just let me know. I don't know if Gen1 & Gen2 seats are the same though.

As a "youngin" I would normally be up for that offer, but summer classes in Tucson start on Monday for me. :(

Tom, I don't know for sure yet...but don't throw it away.

It would be a good opportunity to put my 3.2 and a Quaiffe in.

And I do need to get a black rear seat in to match the 911 front seats.

Is that T-Bird 5 speed a T-5? I've been wondering about this combo for a while. SHO motor, T-5 then it gets weird. Either doubled Toyota cases (4.7:1 rear) or some sort of NP231/D300 doubler combo. All of it thrown in a 1st generation 4Runner. Just one of those things kicking around in the back of my head, waiting for the day I can retire. 6414 more days.

Nope. It'll be an M50D. Similar to the Ranger trans, though the bellhousing is not compatible and it's rear shift instead of top shift.

There's a theory that the internals will fit in a Ranger 3.0 trans case, but I haven't dug up an empty case to test this yet. People have swapped the internals from a Ranger 4.0 trans into a 3.0 case, but I have yet to track down anyone who actually tried swapping internals from the tbird transmission. Externally, the main cases are nearly identical aside from the bellhousing. It'll be down to mounting points and clearance inside.

It's also possible (again, in theory) that the rear shift mechanism from a tbird trans could convert a top shift 3.0 Ranger trans to rear shift.

I have a Supercoupe trans here that needs to be torn down for rebuild anyway. I was planning on getting a 3.0 case and seeing if the parts fit. If not, I have one of the 302 adapters laying around, and I'll just rebuild the tranmission using the tbird case. Of course, if the gears fit and worked in a 3.0 case I could just bolt it up to the SHO motor. But that's for a project that is several years out still, so it's been low on my priority list.

Rbruso, Can you measure the distance from center of shifter location to block mating surface? I'd like to compare it to the T-5's.

Thanks.

I can measure it tomorrow. Shed doesn't have light, so i'd have to juggle a light and the tape tonight :)

Okay, decided to juggle the light. Looks like 31 1/4" from the end of the bell to the center of the shifter. How does that compare to the T-5?

The T-5 is 27.5" and the Mazda 3.0 M50D is 18.5. So that T-Bird's Mazda has its' shifter a full four inches farther back.

I need to go and get that 5 speed at Ecology.

If you do get that trans, could you take some side-by-side shots of it and the 3.0 trans?

Will do.

I have a 4x4 Mazda tranny out of a Ranger; it's missing the back transfer case and locked in a gear but if you need it for parts for your 3.0 tranny, it's yours.
