My 94 SHO has gone through 6 starters in 3 years. (My husband is the mechanic and I am trying to find out for him if this has happened to anyone else.) It is always the same before it fails- a couple of times about a week prior it has trouble starting like it is cold and then WHAMO! no warning, no starting. This last time was different as it tried to crank and I thought I had a low battery. When husband checked it, nope starter failed again. In the last 5 cases it just won't crank, nothing. Any clues at to what we can look for to remedy this continuing and irritating problem. I love my car and won't get rid of it. (Although my husband says it is in danger of a shotgun blast.)

Find your local WAI supplier and just get a 100% new starter. Should last you 10+ years. The standard catalog number is Lester 3230.

When you buy the NEW starter get one that has a lifetime warrenty. Most NEW ones do.

I use and recommend the AUTOLITE(brand new NOT reman) lifetime warrenty

I have gone through 5 starters in 10+ years but only paid for one with a lifetime warranty. As they start to fail they crank slower and slower until "nothing".

The last time mine failed it turned out that I had a starter for a SLO instead of for a SHO which probably resulted in premature failure. Don't know exactly when the SLO starter got in the mix. Make sure you get a starter for a SHO; I recommend the lifetime warranty.

A SLO starter will not install on a SHO because of the way the housings are oriented, and even if you could have done it, it wouldn't have mattered since all Ford car PMGR starters use the same electrical parts.

has your husband changed the selonoid ignition control wire from a pigtail to a ring type terminal I believe there is a service bulletin about this. the small black wire that gets bolted to the terminal on the selonoid dirtectly should be cut off about 6" back and butted with a like sized length of wire with a ring terminal instead of just using a pigtail. it was blamed for causing premature starter failure. also make sure your battery connections are all clean and that the insulation isn't saturated with oil causing resistance. hope it works out better for ya.
