OK I have been replacing my worn out front end in my newly purchased 89. I have replaced the lower ball joints, tie rods, all bushings have been replaced at one time and look real good, passenger side cv axle and I still have a rattle when I hit even small bumps. I also lubricated the strut bearings. The only thing I have not replaced is the strut links , struts and springs. When I got the car the tires were worn on the insides real bad. The car drives a lot better now. I dont want to change the springs and struts yet as I want to get the Tokico and eilbach set up and just cant swing it right now. I want to get it just good enough for an alignment so I can save my tires. The sound does not affect the way the car drives its just annoying? headbang

The rattle is probably from worn sway bar end links. Disconnect the upper end of one of them, then you can check for play in the whole system

Might also be swaybar to subfram bushings. These can be checked at the same time.

As for the alignment, replacing the springs and struts may change your front end geometry. You should have an alignment performed after they are replaced. If you can do all your work first, you won't have to pay for two alignments.

Check your exhaust hanger and headlights, too. I was getting a lot of front end noise even after Poly sway bar and strut rod bushing, '96 sub frame bushings, sub frame connectors, reinforced motor mounts, new cv's, bearing and tie-rod ends. Turns out that my turn signals were a little loose and my exhaust was bouncing around.
good luck

I fixed all of the other sounds that I heard, clicking when I turned hard at slow speeds, Knocking when I turned, the exhaust was just done and is tight, I checked all of the splash shields, headlights etc, they were tight and then this annoying rattle started. I am leaning toward the two straight links behind the tires I believe they are strut to sway bar links. You can grab them from the outside when the tire is on. Hope this is the fix. Thanks a lot.

Those are the sway bar end links to which I referred. The ball joint in which the stud is mounted tends to wear and cause play. This results in a banging or knocking each time one wheel hits a bump or a depression while the other does not.
