subframe question

Hi, I have a 1993 Taurus SHO atx and part of the subframe right by the passenger side subframe bushing broke and I need to find a new subframe. Does anyone know what vehicles are compatible? Are all the subframes the same in 1989-1995 Taurus/Sable/SHO? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank-you!

1993-1995 SHO 3.2 ATX cars are the only compatible ones IIRC.

I had the same thing happen to me and it looked pretty bad. I took it to a body shop and the guy was really helpful. He resurrected it by welding it back together and did a great job. He was recommended by a muffler shop that does custom work.

Ask around and you should find a shop in your area that repairs older cars or even a spring shop that is used to welding frames, it should be repairable.

I think I spent about a $ 125.- $150.- for the repairs.

I vote gen3 subframe swap. You could have it welded, but it should come down and be welded properly.

This probably has been answered 100 times but I couldn't find a thread that explains it. What else would I need for the gen 3 subframe upgrade? How would that work with the motor mounts? Would I need different motor mounts?

bogdan, i'd like to see which part exactly broke on yours. your car is pretty rust free to have that bust like that.

there is a thread that details this, but the short answer is you need the gen3 subframe, lower control arms, spindles/knuckles and bolts to mount the rack. you use your existing struts and motor mounts, and you need to drill a new hole for the front mount (because its in the wrong place on the gen3 subframe) and space that front mount up 5/8" iirc.

I would do that swap rather than pay $150 for welding on existing subframe, because you should be able to pick up all the needed gen3 parts for around $150 at the junk yard, and when you are done you have better suspension.

Then more power to him? Not everyone is capable of doing a Gen3 swap.

I was offering the ability to get his car back on the work with the minimal amount of work. We have shipped a few subframes for this reason.

Thanks again for the suggestions guys. As for the Gen 2 ATX subframes, how much would you charge for the part plus shipping? The only reason I am asking is because I am a bit tight on cash right now. If the price is right, I would definitely consider buying it. I already bought spindles from a 94/95 taurus/sable/sho for the 11.6" brake upgrade. The splash shields were rusted and there wasn't much left in them. I probably spent like $70 trying to get new ones from ford. I also already have stock lower control arms to replace so the Gen 3 subframe upgrade seems unlikely for me right now.
Mario, my car is a bit rusty underneath, especially at the subframe. I think that the clunking noise I was telling you about (coming from the front passenger side) is caused by part of the subframe breaking off at that bushing. I tested this out by power braking (putting the car in drive, one foot on the brake and the other on the gas) and the unibody rises up about 3 inches from the subframe right where that bushing is. Let me know how much that rust-free Gen 2 ATX subframe cost guys please. Thanks again.

You wont need those splash shields, just so you know.
