I've been having intermittent hard shift problems on my recently purchased 93 MTX w/ 90k. Runs great otherwise. I've replaced the trans fluid with Valv Dex/ Merc ATX, adjusted clutch pedal, and changed the way I shift. I've also read several posts regarding worn subframe bushings and Ford recall. The great news is the recall has never been done, dealer has the kit and will do if for free which should really help:woo-hoo:. Three questions- first I've seen several references to aluminum bushings to increase performance- I will be doing some mods (mostly intake and exhaust), but it will still be a daily driver. Dealer will only install original buhings per the recall, is it really a big deal performance wise? Second, since it will be in the dealer anyway should I pay to have the front bushings done also? FYI- I'm pretty good w/ minor repairs, but have no garage or lift so I would have to do them 'shade tree mechanic' style. Last, I was told the 60k maintenance had been done, but now that I know the recall wasn't done, I'd like to be sure. Is there a good way for me or the dealer to confirm that it was completed? Forum's a big help- hope I can contribute in the future (already hit the pay pal button!)

the recall does not include bushing replacement at all. If the dealer replaces your rear bushings, say "thank you" and drive off into the sunset.

As for aluminum bushings, I feel like they cause more trouble than they're worth. Aside from noise, vibration and harshness, wear and tear on suspension components is likely to be accellerated by the use of solid aluminum bushings.

Personally, I wouldn't use anything other than gen3 rear subframe bushings in all 4 corners of a gen 1/2 unless it mainly sees track time (is not a daily driver).

I'm sure that there are people that will dissagree with me, but note their locations. Most people that stand behind aluminum subframe bushings for daily driver use live beyond the "pothole line".

I'm with Grandpa - I have alsfb on my 95 mtx, and it adds a lot of harshness. I'm also still having a problem keeping the rr subframe bolt tight - it wants to keep working loose.
