If my clutch is starting to slip, it's time for a new one right, no alternative right?

Thanks!

You can check to make sure the self adjuster is working properly. Most of the time though, a slipping clutch is on its last legs.

Yes this is a very good possibility, stick you foot behind the clutch pedal and pull it back towards you, then push down on it.... if it didnt' change or got worse... you have the same issue I had on my mustang.... and miltownsho had on his red sho. The teeth were wearing so if you really want, take a look under the dash by the clutch pedal, and look up. There should be this blue half moon-y thing with teeth on it. (kinda hard to see, you may only see the very end of it)

What you can also try, is pull back on the pedal with your hand and push up, as in towards the roof of the car, then release pressure from the clutch pedal, and give 'er a try. Sorry for the poor discription.....

Thanks, I think it is most likely toast. With my foot off the clutch it slips under heavy acceleration. With that info it is not going to be a self-adjuster issue right as that would apply only while coming off the clutch?

Thanks again... Getting resurfaced is not a good option?

$hit not sure if I understood this at all!

I pulled it up with my foot. After that I did a tried to burn it up 1 > 2 > 3..... now maybe I am totally losing it, but I am pretty sure that there was no slippage! Is this what you are talking about? The tires don't quite light up like they used to but this could be for other reasons.

Am I nuts?

Thanks again!

Dude, If you're worried about your clutch going, then why are you lighting the tires up?

When you pull up on the cluth pedal, then depress it, you are manually taking up slack in the cable that occurs as the clutch friction surface wears out. If there was any slack to take up, you should have heard or at least felt a "clicking" sound as you depressed the pedal.

I have to agree also. Lighting up the tires will definitely not do a weakened clutch any good. Not to mention that you are playing roulette with your differential. If you blow a pin through the tranny case, then you'll have much bigger problems than a slipping clutch.

The easiest way to check for a slipping clutch is to set your parking brake, then put it in first gear and ease off the clutch. If it bogs down then just stalls out, the clutch is fine. If the clutch is on its way out, you should definitely feel slipping. Hope this makes it a little more clear.

Because I wanted to be SHO it was indeed slipping :p

Anyway thanks guys.

So there is about 3/4 inch give when I pull the clutch up, but no clicking sound or feel on going back down.

I will have a look under tomorrow.

I really don't understand why there doesn't seem to be any splipping today vs yesterday :(

Exactly!

I've known I've needed a new clutch for the last 4 months and 9000 miles. It was such a cold freakin winter in New England that it never slipped. When I was in Miami in Feb and it was over 80 degrees every day, it would slip pretty regularly. When I got back into colder climes, it went away. In the last week we've had a couple of mid-to-high 70, and even one 80+ degree day, and it's started to slip again.

But, bottom line is start planning on a new clutch... :thumbs_u:

OK....

Yeah so I also did the brake engaged test although I it easily stalls out with the clutch about 3/4 up.

So there is no such thing/point in getting individual clutch parts to rebuild with, just get a complete kit?

Thanks again!

Yes, get an entire clutch kit. But, and Mr. Anonymous can correct me here as he has more experience, but if it stalls out at 3/4 of the way up, it has always been my experience that the clutch isn't bad?? How does it shift? Do you have any trouble getting into gear? Any grinding?

NY for now, WY for real
You CAN get individual pieces, but once you clutch goes, it GOES.

My TOB wore out, chewing up the pressure plate and also messing up the disc.

YOu can get a kit from Autozone for $289. Since the TOB is the part that wears out the fastest, though, you can get an upgraded TOB at shonutperformance.com. Then just order the disc and pp.

Good luck!

Yes the first day I got my red 92, I kicked up the clutch to self adjust it and after that I could not get it into any gear or anything with any sort of ease. I thought I had blew my clutch, but CamaroK figured out, my self adjuster was just broken and showed me how to adjust it manually. I've had to do it a few time's since, and it's probably not good to do it that as it probably prematurely wears the clutch. I got another self-adjuster to go in, just haven't gotten around to doing it, especially that I'm not driving it now.

As far as weather goes, yes your clutch will slip alot more in warmer weather I have noticed also. :jpshakeh:

Thanks for all the help guys.

I still don't really get it. It seems that after raiding and depressing the pedal it doesn't seem to be slipping anymore. Shifting has been and is fine. The weather is now warmer not colder...
