I went to change the air filter the other day and decided to give the MAF a few sprays of cleaner while I was there (CRC MAF cleaner).
I never really noticed before...hence the possible stupid question...but are the wires the same thickness from top to bottom? I ask this because each of the wires in my MAF is thicker in the middle 1/3 of the wire than the top or bottom.
The previous owner ran a heavily oiled K&N filter which had so much crap in it that it felt like a soggy diaper when I took it out. I gave the MAF a couple of squirts of cleaner when I first replaced the K&N with a paper filter but didn't take a real good look at the wires back then.
If they're supposed to look like that, cool. If not, I'm assuming the wires got contaminated with oil and collected some crap? If that's the case I have no idea how to get it off since sticking the little red tube from the can of cleaner about 1/4" away from the wires and giving it a good blast doesn't dislodge anything.
