i just bought a 92 mtx sho, real deal, the only thing wrong i have noticed is that when i accelerate during a turn i hear a sort of bang from the rear tires, i'm guessing this is a rear strut problem, can anyone give me a clue what's going on?

It could be you bottoming out on the wheel well because of sagging springs, or it could be a bad strut mount. The other possiblity since its only when you accelerate into a corner, is that you have a bad rear sway bar link, because i have that in my taurus GL, I looked at the rear suspension and I saw the snapped off sway bar link.

i just took it for a quick ride today (2nd day i've owned it), i didn't hear any noise, the last owner said that it hadn't been driven on a daily basis for about a year, could it be that it just needed to be broken in again? there is MILD rust on the back end strut, shocks, sway bar etc. thanks for any feedback.

Bringing up an old post but I have this problem with the banging rear when on bumps. Im sure based on my search that it is a rear strut mount. I am going to replace it, but must make a 220 mile trip (one way). Is driving a little extra on a bad rear strut mount gonna have any major danger to it other then the annoying sound and maybe some weird tire wear?

Similar Problem:

A noise is coming from the driver side rear strut on my SHO. Bad strut mount? I bought the car from my dad and he claims it quiets down when it warms up. It's been that way for over a year now. I find it particularly annoying. :bonk: The a$$ sags a little too. What do I need to remedy this?

New struts, strut mounts and anti-sway bar endlinks???
