When my car is warm it still doesn't like to start. Replaced my IAB today, and yes reset the idle program. Didn't help at all. The fuel pump is new along with the CID. What it does: Starts fine when cold, and when hot. When it has sat for 45min-4 hrs..it will crank for approx. 5-6 sec, then spudder around 500rpm..then catch. When it doesn't start and it finally does and i shut it off and try to start again it fires right up. I know I have posted about this many previous times, but I hoped the IAB would solve it and I am becoming rather depressed :( . P.S. I was just 60k 2k ago..I was hoping the 60k would take care of this problem also. Thanx

Try cycling the ignition key to ON (not START) a couple of times before trying to start the engine. This will cause the fuel pump to run about 1.5 seconds each time. When this is taking place, do you hear any noises from the rear of the car? Let us know what you find.

Has the CPS been replaced on this car? I know the CPS can manifest its problem in sooo many different ways. Does the car stall intermittaly?

Scott, I have a new fuel pump, approx 4k old. And yes I have tried cycling it 3-4 times to see if that helps and it doesn't. When the fuel pump was replaced I had the return line check valve replaced also.
Silas, The CPS is approx 10k old. Ford replaced it (maybe that is the prob). If the CPS isn't gapped right could it do this. Ford also replaced my front main (I know, I know, I don't let them touch it anymore) if it wasn't gapped right could this be a result?
Thank you for your help, I am excited of the possibility of having this car start every time I want it to! I hope we are getting close.

I have a couple suggestions, as I just discovered my idle problem myself.
First, clean your MAF sensor. They tell the computer how much air is in the system, and how much fuel to shoot. This will make it run better in general, but may not have any effect on your starting problem.
Second, it sounds like your ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor) might be bad, or intermittant. They are inexpensive, so it is a good place to try also.
Lastly, and this was my problem: My fuel pressure is way out of spec. It runs 50 psi at idle and 65 with the vacuum disconnected. This causes it to hunt for idle sometimes, and also to be very hard to start, and turn over for 10-15 seconds before starting up.

What kind of mileage does your car get? If it seems a little low (less than 24-25 on the highway, or less than 18 in town) I would definately check the ECT sensor. It may not even be throwing a code, and it can be failing. Does your car have any codes stored in the computer, or ever flash a Check Engine light while driving?

I haven't had a chance to clean the MAF but I'm meaning to. I replaced my ECT during my 60k that I just did. I haven't had a chance to get a fuel pressure tester but I am gonna pick one up as soon as I get some $. Thanx
