hi all,
i did a search and didn't come up with any cuurent info.
i've been running falken ze-912 225/55-16s and they were great when new but they won't pass inspection in june after 20,000 miles. they stuck like glue in dry, were inspiring in the wet, so-so in snow.
i've been looking at Continental Contac DWS because they have great reviews on tirerack and discounttire.
any other suggestions? TIA

my wife and i have been running General Exclaim UHP, and i'm well and truly impressed with their snow traction, not to mention decent durability and excellent dry traction.

I've been thinking about some new tires for my SHO soon too

in size 235-45-17, can't decide between the

Sumitomo HTR AS P01 $102
Continental Extreme Contact DW $144
Yokohama Avid Envigor $137
Yokohama AS530 $131

all have their benefits, wether it be price, treadwear, or tread design.... dunno which one handles better....

the as530's I think are unidirectional, a big plus, will probably last longest, worst performance, and only H rated while all others are W speed rated........

I'll probably end up with the Sumitomos or Envigors..... the sumitomos are treadwear rated at 360 while the Envigor is rated at 560.... I don't know if the tires will last any longer to make up for the 35 dollar difference..... or if the performance is better

anyone have any experience with above mentioned tires?

UHP's are good for straight line traction.
However if you push them through corners the side walls are very mushy.
Todd,I think Kelvin has or had the Conti DWS so he could probably give you good feedback in a SHO application.

From what I've read (forums & TR tire tests), for a/s tires, these are about the best.,

In VA, these a/s are probably fine. For colder climates, a/s tires are close to useless.

I have the DW. Pretty happy with them overall. They ride much nicer than the Sumitomo HTRZIII I had previously. I did a couple track days with them and was satisfied. I had some rollover issues during the last autocross I did, but I'm confident that was due to inadequate air pressure.

I can't really comment on all-season tires.

I put a set of DWS 17 inchers on my Gen 2 for fall / winter / spring (not my daily driver). They are decent in the snow for all-seasons, would rather have dedicated winter tires, but I didn't want to get in to 3 sets of tires for the car.

Already have Dunlop Star Specs for the summer, since I do mostly track days with the car, and was looking for something that would work on the cold wet days in the spring and fall. Got the DWS rubber late in the fall of 2010, had them out at two track days. For full tread all-season tires, they hung on pretty well. Good in the wet, quiet smooth ride on the street.

Enough grip to do this anyway ...

cheers
Ed N.
