Steering Noises

When backing out in the mornings or after i've been parked for a considerable time, whenever i turn the steering wheel i get a ghastly creaking noise. I don't think it's a lack of power steering fluid. Has my PS pump gone bad? Do i need to get a new rack? I've also heard stories aobut sway bars gone bad making odd noises. Help Please!
