a friend of mine has a sho that is having issues w/ the steering once the car hits 70, problem is, it locks up really tight, still turnable but it takes my 200+lb frame a decent amount of force to move it and since she is like 105lbs, its a problem. i know when im doin 70 in my SHO i can rest my wrist on the wheel and turn it easily, her car requires both hands and a little muscle. any ideas what the problem might be? we looked at her fluid levels and the steering fluid doesnt seem to be moving that much but why would that only effect speeds above 70?

I've never personally had a problem with that, but it almost sounds like the pump is shutting down at higher speeds or the rack is hanging up. Does it make any noises at any time?

At any rate, have it looked at pronto. It would be a shame if she (or you) were hurt as a result of it.

Don't sho's have speed sensitive steering? I know my 93 did. Higher speeds= tighter steering.
My 90 does not... its probably broke, like my e brake, my ac, my... oh, sorry.

sounds like the variable assist is varying a bit too much. It sounds as if the assist is going away completely. I don't know just how manages the asist, I would guess it's a valve hopefully on the pump where it can be reached. She had better get it looked at real soon before it decides to go away at 20 mph before a sharp turn.

Well speed should not affect steering at all, unless it's a 93 or newer, and then the only thing I can think of would be the VSS, but then you would notice the car dropping out of overdrive and it would downshift very harsh. Is this all the time? or only when the car is warm? for some reason I don't think it's VSS, but I can't think of what it could be.

its a 93 and it happens after any amount of running but only above 70. my 94 is a lot looser than hers at 70 and i dont think my car ever gets that tight even when im stuck at 125mph.(@$&*ING OVERDRIVE @@#%*&@#%!*$%@*)
