I was wondering if there are any other cars with the same rear calipers as the SHO. i dont really want to spend the money on new ones, since i have 150k on my car, but mine are shot, so any suggestions?

im near lansing. i got a quote from carquest, they said 75 bucks for each with my discount. they didnt say anything about a core, however.Bizzy:
You can get calipers from auto parts stores or from FPN or SHO Nut. I'd suggest getting new ones...at 150k your car is just broken in, lots of life yet in her. wink
Where in MI are you?
Yah, unfortunately we don't, but that's a thought about knowing someone.jelloslug:
Hey Jayman, I got new bracket and pins from Autozone for $20 US. Are there any Autozones in Canada? If not, do you know someone that may be able to hook you up?
on that note, this is to anyone who buys front calipers from Auto-Zone....when they ask if it has the police package, say yes(they are Fenco C313/C314). all SHOs came with the calipers used on the cop cars, regardless if the SHo was designated for police use or not. how did i find out ? the calipers i got were for a regular Taurus....and when doing 80 MPH exiting the highway, i couldnt stop.slosho:
Ask the parts guy if the calipers are cheaper for a Thunderbird of the same year. Cause guess what? They're the same. They think just because it's a SHO which is kinda rare, they can up the list price.![]()
Actually, the base calipers are the same on all '94-'99 Tauruses (including SHO's), Sables, and Continentals. The difference is the piston. From the factory, base Taurus & Sable calipers came with a phenolic piston, whereas the SHO's, LX's, SE's, police packages and Conti's came with steel pistons. Most remanufacturers use steel pistons if a new piston is required during rebuilding.DHMag:

same calipers, yes. but the braking system (proportioning valve/master cylinder) have different qualities. yes, the standard Taurus calipers will work but you WONT BE ABLE TO STOP. when heavy braking from 80 MPH, i had both feet on the pedal pushing with all i had and just barely got stopped, and my ABS never kicked in.SHOooo:

Regardless of the P/N, the only way to know for sure that you get the right piston is to open up the box & check before leaving the store.
I was only addressing the calipers which is what 93EmeraldATX asked about, not the rest of the braking system.DHMag:

both calipers had steel pistons. the one for the regular Taurus has a smaller inside diameter, requiring diff pads (in this case PFC 4214). the pads for the SHO are PFC 4214S.
i'll have to check that out.RCADDELL:
I got calipers for the rear form autozone for 35 dollars a piece with a 70 dollar core charge. Not too expensive IMO.
i just cheacked that out, and its probabaly what ill end up doing. Thanks!93EmeraldMTX:
