I've got an aftermarket Clarion HU with Infinity speakers, and the factory amp is bypassed. Whenever I turn up the stereo up past about 25 which is semi-loud I start getting this VERY annoying staticy noise and distortion. Any ideas on what may be causing that??

Is it consistent with the RPMs? If so youve got alternator whine and should look into a "ground loop isolator" from RadioShack.

If not then I would recheck the wiring as thats usually the result of a grounded (shorted) or bad connection.

probably a bad ground on the head unit.

Curious though, what RMS wattage is the HU rated at? And the same for the speakers?

Clarion is famous for defective High End Units.

I practically had to go to war with them over a Joyride Unit I bought a couple of years ago. Brand new, Picked up EMI like it was going out of style.

Two months later, they finally conceded that it was the deck, and agreed to send me a new one. Amazingly, this one was static free.

Cliff Notes: It may be your deck.
