Went to install my mounts this afternoon and had an issue . . .
20220424 190639
Front mount went in fine. Went to torque the front bolt of the rear mount in and pulled about an inch of threads out of the transmission case. Torque spec I have from SSM is 80 ft lbs. Is this incorrect or is my torque wrench WAY out of calibration?

Also, looking at it, my only option seems to be drilling out the remaining threads and tapping it for the next size bigger bolt?

Any help/input would be appreciated. Kind of frustrated as I was thinking this was going to bd a pretty simple mod. Thank you.

I would suggest a Helicoil. Going the next size larger bolt probably wont fit in the mount itself.
Thank you. I thought of that on the way to work this morning as well, but wasn't sure if it would hold up. So I talked to the owner of my best commercial account about the mess and he actually suggested the helicoil before I brought it up, he said if it were his car that's what he would try first. That made me feel better about the idea. I should have the helicoil kit tomorrow and plan to tackle it Wednesday.

How often are we supposed to grease those zerk's? Wait, they had zerk's, right?

Also, SM, your ugga dugga is probably 5x or more of an average man. So I'm surprised you didn't rip the torque mounts off of your car. HULK ANGRY!!!

For the longest time my buddy wouldn't allow me to tighten anything without using larger than a 1/4 inch drive rachet.

No zerks.

I wonder if there were two different kinds, because these look like grease fittings, don't they:

I'll have to peek at mine again to see if they have it. I haven't looked at them in a long time, it's one of those nice, set it and forget it mods. Mine didn't have a front mount either.

Those are the AD mounts with zerks. The OP has SSM mounts

Reviving an old thread instead of posting a new one. So I (also) stripped the threads in the transmission casing while torquing the AD mount to (also) 80 ft lbs and currently have a wire in to hold torque. Decided to go with a Time-Sert fix instead of a Helicoil but want to confirm with OP or anyone who knows if M12x1.75 is the correct bolt size.

Apparently anything above OEM specs (76 ft lbs) will probably strip the aluminum threads. I blame my even number OCD for this.

All bolts actually have to be lubricated when torquing them to have a true torque value. Thats why engine block studs or any bolt from ARP says on its instruction sheet to make sure bolts are lubricated before you apply torque. Thats why every bolt you pull off the chassis of the SHO has a form of threadlocker on it, it reduces friction on the threads and ensures even clamping pressure.

Thats why on the Ford install guide it says “
Apply the substance from the specified tube”
