every thing passed with ease, but the Nox allowed is 796 (ppm) current reading is 1912 (ppm) :headbang: Every thing is new. This is the ss y-pipe with cats with about 45 miles on it. :jpshakeh:

HC allowed 114 (ppm) current reading 11 (ppm)
CO allowed .63 (%) current reading .00 (%)
NOX allowed 796(ppm) curent reading 1912(ppm

WTF?

Hows your gas mileage been? I'd recommend replacing the ECT sensor. I had the same problem with inspection that you have and I replaced mine and was able to pass no problem. You can also pull the SPOUT Connector when you go for inspection and it will pull the timing and help you pass also. Do it right before you get to the inspection place though, it will feel like you're driving with the parking brake on. The connector is located right near the EEC Check connector by the right shock tower.

As mentioned, yank the LPM and reset the PCM, re-learn idle and drive the car for at least a half hour before having it re-tested. If you have anything but the stock MAF on it, yank that too.

If you fail on the re-test, I'd have to suspect some other general maintenance issue(s) that need to be addressed, especially with brandy new cats.

The LPM was out, car was running for about 45 mins. Do you think that I have a faulty O2. And yes lean would explain all the readings. I'll try pulling the spout. I should have do that to start with. :headbang:

You might try cleaning it with some electrical contact cleaner. I wouldn't recommend touching the filaments with anything, just spray them off with the cleaner.

Have you checked your fuel pressure? Typically a SHO with good Oxygen sensors will not run lean. You might have a vacuum leak somewhere.

IMHO, the closer you are to stock, the better your chances of passing. FWIW, after re-reading the title of your thread, it's actually your car that did not pass inspection, not the SS y-pipe! :)

Have you checked for any stored codes that might point at problems?

Ok...I've asked this before and have never gotten a straight answer...

What is the SPOUT? Where is it, and what does it do? Since I know this pulls the timing, I would assume pulling it would make the car perform like a Tortise.

Thanks.

You are correct! It is on the passenger side (fire wall area) it is a single little plug. A little square one. Yes the car is a turd without it!

SPOUT = Spark Output of the ECU, aka DIS = Distributorless Ignition System aka EI (Low data rate) Electronic Ignition aka TFI = Thick Film Ignition aka DI = Distributorless Ignition aka EDIS = Electronic Distriburoless Ignition System aka EI (High data rate) = Electronic Ignition. All of the aforementioned are the terminollogy used for the EEC-IV (Elelectronic Engine Control 4) Distributorless Ignition System for different model years.

Pulling the DIS or SPOUT connection should never be necessary to pass an emissions test. Pulling the DIS connection puts the car in the safe mode or "Limp in Mode" and allows for a very narrow advance curve, that is timing is ********, and acceleration is non exsistent. I do agree that you do what you gotta do to pass that idiotic, environmentally meaningless, test.

V-tec,

What kind of O-2 sensors did you put in the car? Were they the right ones for the car? If you put in the old ones and it passed, there must have been something wrong with the new ones, or if they were working correctly you have a problem somewhere else.

Check for stored codes. If any are found, record them. Then clear the codes, drive the car for a while, and see if the codes come back. If the codes return, repair as necessary. rangerj

Well...Why didn't somebody say so!!!!

I know what DIS is! Thanks RangerJ! :thumb:

Won't pulling the DIS/SPOUT make the CE light come on? If so, the car wouldn't pass inspections or emmissions in many states...such as New Jersey and CT. So, yeah...
