OK, I put up a post a couple of days ago about a squeak coming from the right front wheel - it doesn't do it though when I'm moving say 10-15 mph in a parking lot.....I noticed that my speedometer is "jiggling" all the way up to around 50 mph and then it's a steady needle. I think the squeaking noise is actually the speedometer - is this possible? Is there a way to grease the speedometer cable? I took the dash apart, but couldn't figure out how to unhook the cable from the cluster.

You can definitely grease it, but I don't know what to suggest. On motorcycles you use cable ****, and it comes in an aerosol can. I don't know the construction of the SHO speedo cables (though I have replaced mine before) so I don't know what to suggest. Maybe graphite ****?

You are correct in that it probably is the cable. They aren't tremendously expensive, so possibly just replace them. Be sure to route it correctly - mine started to jiggle again and I think it's the routing.

There is actually a maintenance requirement to lubricate the speedometer cable. Unless you know exactly how to unhook the clip behind the speedometer, you will have to remove the dash panel and the speedo itself to unhook the cable.

Thanks Scott - I really think that's the problem. The previous owner apparently took my SHO down a dirt road or two judging from all of the dust I've sucked out of the carpeting, etc. I'm almost positive the speedometer is the thing making all of the noise. I took the dash apart the other day, but couldn't figure out how to remove the clip on the back of the speedo. frown
