Maybe your speed sensor has failed!

That's what I was thinking but my cruise still works and when I searched this I read a few threads that said the cruise wouldn't work if the vss (vehicle speed sensor) was bad.

What if....

If you disconnect it from the vss you should be able to see the cable sticking out and should be able to turn it by hand (on the cable coming from the fire wall) get somebody to look at the speedo while you do that and see if they see "ANY" movement at all.

You can also do the same with the VSS, just take it off and make sure that that if you turn it from one side that it turns from the other side.

Just a thought!

Isn't it a pain to remove the VSS?

I guess I can remove the cluster and do the same and see if I can get it to move by turning it. Then I can narrow the problem down a little I guess.

I would remove the cluster just yet!.

Look at the cable coming out of the fire wall follow it down and disconect it its just one little metal clip holding it then turn it by hand it the cluster does turn the follow the cable furthur down and undo the next clip and to make sure that the cable hanst snapped (unlikely)

I 2nd this move. The speedo cable is split in two. Right when it comes out of the firewall.

So has anyone removed the vss on an ATX from the top. I'm just not looking forward to removing the y pipe if I don't have to, I checked the bolts and they are nice and rusty.

I did it sucked. I had trouble getting the bolt back in at the correct angle. I used a good size mirror back there to finally get it in.
