I did it sucked. I had trouble getting the bolt back in at the correct angle. I used a good size mirror back there to finally get it in.

Well not what I wanted to hear but thanks anyways. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow.

It only sucked because I didn't pay close enough attention when removing it. Had I used a mirror when removing it I would have seen the correct angle, and exactly how the sensor is supposed to be clocked.

No. I layed across the engine, used a 1/4 snap-on flex head ratchet and some extentions.
Got it down there and on the bolt, it came right out.

That's how I was going to try it, I layed accross the motor and I could feel the vss heat shield and I was planning on removing the intake to do plugs and valve cover gaskets so I figured it might not be too hard that way especially with the intake off.

That should make it easier.

Speedometer problems

I have a 94 MTX...speedo does not work at all. cable from dash works. the intermediate cable, the short one, works. I turned it and it turns at the other end. I have yet to remove the vss. I would think its the gear in the trans. Right? It doesn't make sense if the vss doesn't work that would mean the cruise control wouldn't work but the speedo should still work. Correct?

put a drill on the end of the cable, pull the upper cable from the lower, attach the dril to the upper cable at that point, some should stick out so you can grab it, spin the drill lightly and see if the speedo moves....... if not one of two things are wrong, the upper cable is broken at the dash end, or the speedometer is broken in the gauge.

if you do this test and everything works, then your problem lower then that, either with a gear, the lower speedo cable, or the actual sensor itself.

Thanks...did that and the needle moved on the speedometer. I went lower and removed the vss from the transaxle case. That seemed ok...did not bind. Doesn't look like I can remove the speedometer retainer from the case even though I removed the retaining bolt. Now I can turn the speedometer driven gear in the transaxle whether or not the trans is in gear or in neutral. It turns freely so is it stripped? I just had the darn clutch replaced also. Is there no other way to replace that gear in the trans with R&R the transaxle?
