Everything is all back together:) the last few issues all wrapped up but the speedo and odometer not reading at all, no movement. Lower cable and vss all new clean driven gear, but there is one two prong female connection coming from firewall near cluster that I can't find its partner. Could this plug be the culprit and does anyone know where it goes? Thanks in advance:) :rainshit:

The speedometer and Odometer are cable driven. If they are not working the the is something wrong with the cable or its not ****** up properly. I have to assume by the lack of details in your post that you had the cluster removed at some point? Did you make sure that the cable "snapped" back into position on the back of the cluster or did you just stick it in and be done with it?

If the cable is good and connected properly then it sounds like your speedo gauge has crapped out. Find a good replacement and swap it in.

Did not remove cluster, did a total motor swap. I kept the whole vss/lowerspeedo/upper speedo complete minus the electric clip in the vss. Maybe it broke where it goes into firewall but we pretty much stayed out of that area. I see this flat shaped female connector but can't find its match so I wondered if that might be the issue. Speedo worked fine before. I was also wondering if there was something near the top side of the system that might be the cause?

Did you swap trannys too or just motors?

The female connector you are referring to, if it is oval shaped it doesnt go to anything. Just leave it be.

The speedo is controlled by the cable. Consentrate on that. Remove the kick panel under the steering column and reach behind the cluster. Check to make sure the cable didnt get pulled loose some how.

the cable is VERY unlikely to have pulled out of the cluster - the keeper there is very stout.

it is much more likely that the various sections of the cable are not pushed back together properly. the cable has a little square male end that must engage the little square female end at each connection. double-check each of those.

The female connector is a flat small rectangle shape, with two wires that are yellow and black . I'll go out now and make sure all the quick connects are secure and double check. I remember this guy john pulled of my intake years ago and the speedo quit working and he just giggled something on the top and it worked again thought maybe that was a common prob. If the driven gear in the vss broke what other problems would occur? I hare to think I'd have to do that shit again but I can do it with the cats on so I guess I shouldn't complain........if my husband wouldn't flip I'd just give you that motor Fred lol but are you still looking for the flywheel bolts and dowels? I can give you a set of those for sure I have extras.....thanks guys I'll go out now and see if that's the problem:)

OK still nowhere here everything passed drill test, so I'm left with this one question...... my trip meter is still working, the speedo and odo are not. My father In law says the trip should run off the same things as everything else. The connector I still can't figure out is red and black, small and flat. Related or no? Idk getting frustrated again hahahahaha y does that always happen with this car? That's a rhetorical question :)

Push the trip reset button a few times and see if any change. If not, your speedo head might have failed.

Its very simple. The speedo is run by the cable. "Nothing else". If you have double checked the cable and its connected properly then you need a new speedometer.
