Speedo not working, and Tranny slip

I'm not sure if the two are connected in any way, but I'm assuming it needs a new clutch, and a speedometer cable.

Any ideas, or did I accurately assume?

I just bought a 93' MTX with 150k miles, and just about everything else is in pretty good condition, no engine noises or rattles, no leaks, no check engine light etc. I just want to know if it could be anything else, before I go ahead and buy a new clutch.
