My speedo quit a little bit ago, I belive its broken in dash, so I need to get a new cable from the joint just above the Trans. to the dash, my father belives the cable on a manule is different on the MTX, from the ATX. I have a MTX and plan on getting the part from Junk Yard. Thats why I need to know if they are Diff. b/c I have a MTX and the chances of finding a Reg. Taurus with a MTX are none. SO if anyone has the part I need that would be great, thanks!
PS-- There is a clip on the cable to release it from the 1st prt of the cable off the trans. I cant tell if I push the clip in or out. I have tryed pulling hard as **** and it wouldnt budge. Its a medal clip that slides through the joint on speedo cable. Anyone know how to get it out?

I'm using an upper cable from a junkyard ATX on my 89. It's a bit longer than the origninal, but it does work. Try to match the color coded tape and the part number (if the label is still attached).

You can test the upper section of the cable by disconnecting it from the lower half and turning the core with a drill to see if the spedo works. At least you can determine which half of the system is at fault.

The clip is a PITA to remove. I've messed up each one I've ever removed. Just pull and pry until the clip comes out. With a new clip, the cable snaps right in and is held very securely.

When I installed a new speedo cable, I took the gauge cluster out, put the new cable on the back and then reinstalled everything up to the transmission.

Yep, what paul said.

If you have small enough hands, you can do it without removing the cluster. Not me, though.
