So who's not really impressed with the new SHO?

Yeah, a crappy clutch, weak trans, balky shifter, those things would have been nice. But hey, they did keep the undersized brakes!

You can get a Lexus IS-F and get the high revving Yamaha but not the manual. You can get an M3 and get a manual with a high revving motor. It's not a Yamaha but it's peaky so maybe that'll work.
I miss the revability of the Yamahammer but the torquiness of the LS motors certainly help ease the pain. As does the Eco-boost...

I like the revability AND the tq AND the manual. So I turbo'd my SHO!!! doh!

As a SHO owner for a few moths now I'll weigh in. I am by no means a car guy, far from it even. I bought the SHO after my mom bought an MKS and I loved driving her car. the wife got rear ended in a gen five taurus and after the repair we dumped the gen 5 and bought an awd gen 6 taurus. One day the wife said why didn't we buy the new SHO instead, we traded the awd limited for the SHO. I enjoy driving the SHO the power
is great when I need it and sometimes i want it. I'm not a racing type of guy but
i do like to speed at times and the engine has never failed me so far. I like the reduced
cabin noise, wind noise etc and even engine roar, i want to hear myself think i do not
care about the groan of the motor i just want it to start and run.
I couldn't care less about the sync, I already have xm and love it so I have my favorite list of songs and when they come on xm tells me. I do not love an artist enough to
say play all fergie songs. I would much rather have onstar then sync, I like onstar
on the ESV far more then the ford version. I like the cockpit seating but to address
silver saying convert it to the new crown vic, the center console will have to go bye bye, things keep digging into my side so i'm sure the cops will have the problem. The dash layout i can not stand i hate the tunnels.
The stopping distance is a bit scary at times but I try not to ride on top people
at high speeds. I also like the gripping of the road when cornering i don't feel like it's going to slide at all. all in all I like the car, I will never say i love a car because i don;t
love things that can't love me back. If i had a choice between the cars in my driveway
I would choose the 2002 taurus, she has served me well and her record speaks for herself. the SHO has some big shoes to fill.

I have owned a SHO for three months and I love it! I replaced a 2007 Mercedes E63 that was up on the lease with the SHO. The E63 was a $100k car and the SHO was $43 loaded with everything. At 507HP the E63 was fast and smooth. However the SHO has more state of the art technology and the SYNC/NAV system is so far above the old tech Mercedes NAV there is no comparison. The power of the SHO is very good for what it is, a $45k sedan & family car. My only complaint is the SHO has a couple of mystery noises when going 75 that sound like plastic rubbing plastic somewhere in the dash area. But it is a Ford...

i compare the new SHO to the younger brother who went off to law school and came back polished and sophistacted...but still had a lil bit of a party side to him. whereas the old SHO could be a little bit rough around the edges, loud, and more fun than a family sedan should be, the new SHO is more about fit and polish. in some ways Ford took away what made the SHO what it is, but in others made it better. it's a bit too refined for my tastes, but that won't stop me from dropping the coin on one. i'm quite smitten by the fat beast.

You probably never drove a new Gen 1 or 2 SHO when they came out. They were pretty quiet, and really not rough around the edges at all. Age and mods have changed that for a lot of folks, but, other than the tightened suspension, they were on par with other near-luxury sedans.
Driving the red '89 is a reminder to me. Still quiet with all of the stock stuff, and the suspension doesn't feel that different anymore. Probably softer than the LGT was with it's stock suspension and 45-series tires.

Can't believe this thread is still going. some say its too refined for their tastes, well id be willing to guess some of those people would be complaining its too boy racer if it weren't so refined, and vice versa. Can't please everyone. I also dont understand why everyone is complaining about the weight. What'd u expect? the original SHO was a boat, and this car is as well. 3200lbs was alot back in the day, and most people justify it because it had all leather, jbl sound, power everything etc. etc. Just as the old ones had almost every conceivable option of its time, so does this one.

in 5 to 10 years these 2010s will be tricked out, on diets and have aftermarket GIANt brakes. Lets see who has one when the used prices fall within reach for the rest of us.
Be happy new blood has flowed into the SHO community. I think this will be good for the Gen I, II & III also. Support the new SHO and hurry new upgrades so it becomes a standout like the original Then, we can find a good deal on a used one in the fUture.

I'm bringing this back from the dead.
I went from a modified '04 CTS-V, to a modified '07 SRT Jeep, and now to this 2012 SHO. I will say I'm very impressed at the acceleration, interior quality, handling (for its size), and MPG. I'm not regretting the purchase one bit. The car is very refined, IMO.
My only knocks are the brakes (no surprise) and lack of a distinguishable front fascia.
Ford got it right. Any improvements in future revisions is icing on the cake.

I'm surprised no one mentions one other difference between the new and old SHO's. The old Taurus' were HIDEOUS! I guess I never understood why anyone would want to make an ugly car fast when there are so many other fast cars that look good. For finally got smart and gave the Taurus a makeover.
I also prefer AWD since I like in a snowy climate so that is another thing which is a big improvement in my book.

mcGee, Looks, or lack of, is a very personal thing. I think the First gen is better looking than the Gen II or III, and the 4th Gen Taurus was maybe the best of them all, but to my eye, and it is obviously a bit prejudiced by owning SHO's, and promoting them through the club, is that the Taurus in all versions, is aging better than most other brands built during that time.
I do like the look of the Gen IV SHO, and the minor update this year is an improvement on that. I think like earlier SHO's and Tauri? the car will age gracefully. But no doubt, in 10 years, you will probably think they look Hideous!
